Summary: The Director of Planning and Development is a key member of the Business Development team responsible for the development of new programs and/or initiatives that help the organization achieve strategic goals and objectives, and generate revenue to help support agency mission through programs, initiatives, and administrative costs. In collaboration with agency departments and other organizations, this position will identify fundable projects fitting the agency’s strategies, conduct research, and write proposals to secure privately and publicly funded grants, general operations and capital projects. The position will also provide leadership in new program start-up, the establishment of systems that promote fidelity to grant requirements, and
Participate in quality improvement initiatives that support the agency’s capacity in the delivery of programs and administrative services.
Responsibilities
Funding Proposal Development
- Leads the grant/funding application process including identifying and convening project team, establish roles, timeline, execute and monitor the preparation of an “on-time” funding submission.
- Develops strategies and timelines for application completion
- Write compelling funding proposals
- Responsible for ensuring the quality of submitted proposals (including ensuring clarity, accuracy and strategic alignment)
- Support research, model design, and gather information from administrative or program staff through interviews and other means sufficient to prepare a competitive response
- Support the development and procurement of MOU agreements.
- Create and maintain forms and templates for proposals (e.g., letters of intent).
- Support the creation of template language to be used in proposal development.
Grants/Contract Management
- Responsible for tracking, and completing all reporting and renewal requirements
- Collaborate with the agency's Fiscal, HR, IT and Program Departments to reconcile records, deliverables and required reports to funders, as required.
- Work with VPs/Senior management to identify program needs and funding opportunities
- Assist in new program start-up, and the establishment of systems that promote fidelity to the grant requirements, as needed.
Business Development
- Identify opportunities for agency growth and partnership through participation in community coalitions and funding collaborations.
- Identify grant-making organizations that support the mission of the organization and assist in developing and maintaining relationships funders as needed.
- Participate in PQI Initiatives that support the agency’s capacity in the delivery of programs and administrative services.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Excellent expository writing, research, and organization skills.
- Knowledge of state agencies and their priorities.
- BA/BS from accredited college or university in pertinent subject matter (Public Health, Social Work, Public Administration, behavioral health or social sciences) or pertinent skills (Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or English); or minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience. Graduate degree a plus.
- 5-7 years of experience with writing grants across multiple funding sectors for a variety of population types is preferred. Familiarity with social/behavioral health services, and Latino community a plus.
- Knowledge and capacity to facilitate an internal process to design a program model that meets the funder requirements and is aligned with the capacity of the service division in which the project will be embedded.
- Facility with key computer programs: Word, Excel, and Access. Experience in quantitative data analysis and presentation would be highly welcome.
- Experience navigating the state of MA online procurement platform- Commbuys
- Initiative, attention to detail, and reliability in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Healthy doses of curiosity, enthusiasm and humor.
- Must have reliable transportation
