Project Recovery views addiction through the lens of chronic disease.  We offer person-centered, evidence-based, comprehensive substance use disorder and mental health care to all South Dakota residents. We support at-risk individuals through addiction treatment services, individual and group counseling, and advocacy. We provide affordable, accessible care through telemedicine and in-person services. Our multidisciplinary team includes medical professionals, patient navigators, social workers, addiction counselors, and administrative staff. Join us in making a difference.


Job Description


The Physician Collaborator provides South Dakota licensure supervision for Project Recovery’s Physician Assistants (PA) as outlined in the Physician Assistant Practice Agreement and stipulated by SDCL §36-4A. This role involves direct collaboration with the SD Clinical Practice Director and PAs to ensure regulatory compliance with PA licensure requirements.

  • Embrace and actualize a harm-reduction, person-first, chronic disease philosophy of care and growth mindset in regards to the diagnosis and compassionate treatment of substance use disorders.
  • Supervise with a collaborative, team-oriented spirit.

Licensure Supervision

  • As per SDCL §36-4A, provide licensure supervision via a combination of direct personal contact and telecommunication directly with the PAs.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Practice Director, complete regular PA chart reviews.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Engage in collaborative care efforts with internal departments and stakeholders to elevate patient care and better clinical outcomes.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external parties.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and clinical discussions.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all supervision activities in compliance with clinic and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal guidelines in the provision of collaborative supervision.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain all professional licensure, certifications, and CME requirements outlined by your professional organizations and state(s) of licensure.
  • Stay current with developments in addiction medicine/evidence-based practice.


Requirements and skills

  • Proven experience as a physician
  • Broad knowledge of common medications, side effects, and contraindications
  • In-depth knowledge of medical best practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Respect for patient’s confidentiality
  • Compassionate and approachable
  • Responsible and trustworthy
  • Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) or Doctorate of Osteopathic degree (DO) with a valid license to practice in the applicable specialty and State
  • Current South Dakota DEA and CDS
