Peer Support Specialist for Residential Services

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Manager of Peer Services, the Peer Support Specialist for Residential Services provides peer-to-peer recovery support services to clients enrolled in Eva’s Residential Services (Halfway Houses) to those afflicted with substance use and co-occurring disorders and other bio-psycho-social conditions and complications.
JOB DUTIES
Performs all procedures accurately, completely and efficiently for clients in accordance with applicable program policies and procedures:
1. Provides outreach and engagement services designed to assist clients in accessing prevention, treatment and recovery support services.
2. Provides one-on-one peer-to-peer recovery support clients at Eva’s Halfway Houses.
3. Develops recovery plans, which include measurable goals and barriers to goal obtainment.
4. Facilitates peer-to-peer recovery support groups and workshops as assigned.
5. Makes phone outreach and “check-up” calls to members as assigned.
6. Serves as an advocate and mentor and supports individuals in their recovery.
7. Works with Clients to help them develop life skills.
8. Makes appropriate referrals based on the needs of the client.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent
Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS)
OR High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of full-time equivalent experience in the substance-related disorders field and currently enrolled in a program leading to the CPRS and under the supervision of a person who has the required
credentials and at least three years’ experience in the substance-related disorders field.
EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of all aspects of addiction treatment and how to access it, including the Stages of Change Theory; Motivational Interviewing; behavioral problem solving techniques; principles of recovery for either substance use or mental health disorders; case management activities and applications particular to recovery management; indigenous and community competencies; community resources for social support and how to access each; resources for food, clothing, shelter and other distal needs and how to access; resources for medical care and how to access; resources for mental health care and how to access; mutual aid recovery groups, their functions, values and beliefs and how to access; faith-based organizations and how to access; confidentiality rules and regulations related to substance use and mental health disorders prevention, treatment and recovery supports.
Ability to work independently.
Ability and willingness to follow established procedures.
Ability to be nonjudgmental of adolescents or adults who have a substance use or mental health disorder.
