Part-Time Math Specialist (grades 6-10)


Overview: Dwight-Englewood School, the largest independent school in Bergen County, NJ, and a growing, vibrant, and diverse learning community in the New York City metro area, is seeking to fill a part-time Math teaching position (grades 6-10). We seek an energetic, curious teacher who wants to inspire students to learn more about themselves and the world around them.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Actively support the Mission of the School and put that vision into daily practice.

  • Teach sections of minor courses in grades 6-10 (Math Labs that meet twice a week, as a supplement to their grade-level core math courses)

  • Meet weekly with the department to discuss students and to coordinate instruction and curriculum.


Desired Qualities:

The ideal candidate will offer most or all of the following qualities as well as the qualifications that follow:

  • A true love of working with students, ranging in age from 12-16.

  • A personality that is approachable, encouraging, and positive.

  • Experience with cross-curricular instruction and process-based feedback, with a sincere interest in collaborating with colleagues.

  • Clear, consistent, and dynamic communication with students, colleagues, and parents.

  • A growth mindset.

  • Experience working with students who have math learning differences is a plus.

Position Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Math or related fields.

  • School experience, with a strong background in working with students in some of the grades from 6-10.

  • Personal and professional alignment to the school’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and anti-bias education in all aspects of the work with Middle and Upper School students, families, and colleagues.

  • Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills.

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a permanent, part-time position - the equivalent of 2.5 to 3 teaching units per week (full time is 4.5 - 5 units)

  • Part-time teachers commit to being here for their teaching hours, along with some planning and collaboration time, attendance at faculty meetings, and some other school-wide meetings and events.

  • Professional days are considered workdays and participation in planned activities is expected.
