POSITION OVERVIEW


Are you looking to be a part of a growing company that is committed to uncompromising safety? JGM is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Engineer. This position reports to the Health & Safety Manager and will support in the management of the JGM safety programs, initiatives, and education on multiple sites throughout the country including at our fabrication facility in Coatesville, PA. In addition, this position will be responsible for promoting and supporting safety culture at the company’s office headquarters, fabricating facility and all field project locations. Projects at times may require Health & Safety Engineer to be full time on projects in various states.  


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Perform regular safety audits in steel fabrication shop and various jobsites throughout the field.  
  • Conduct job site inspections and produce detailed audit reports of findings.  
  • Perform job site audits on sub-contractors.  
  • Represent the organization with owners, owner’s representatives and enforcement agencies.  
  • Implement corrective measures and provide recommendations for both shop and job sites.  
  • Conduct company safety orientation for new hires.  
  • Conduct classroom and hands on training for field and shop employees at all levels  
  • Investigate all workplace injuries, incidents and near misses.  
  • Produce detailed site-specific plans for various projects in accordance with OSHA, MSHA, EM-385, DOT, USACE & EPA standards.  
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned by management.  


WORK ENVIORNMENT

 

This position may perform physically demanding work including lifting and carrying heavy objects. Some work can happen outdoors in all weather conditions. Some jobs expose workers to harmful materials or chemicals, fumes, odors, loud noise, or dangerous machinery. Some workers may be exposed to lead-based paint, asbestos, or other hazardous substances during their work especially when working in confined spaces. To avoid injury, workers in these jobs wear safety clothing, such as gloves, hardhats, protective chemical suits, and devices to protect their eyes, respiratory system, or hearing. It is important that all workers exercise caution and are able to deal with or identify a variety of hazards. 


REQUIREMENTS

 

  • High School Degree, or GED equivalent preferred 
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change and grow 
  • Ability to perform various mathematical activities to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs 
  • Ability to read and interpret regulation, plans, and construction drawings 
  • Ability to adapt and meet deadlines and respond to changing variables 
  • Ability to problem solve using several concrete variables in standardized situations 
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills 
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. 
  • Able to demonstrate skills in Composure and Conflict Resolution 
  • Demonstrate abilities in Team Building with a willingness to collaborate and adapt 
  • Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed 
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job) 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • CHST Certification  
  • OSHA 500 and 501 Outreach Trainer    
  • MSHA Certification  
  • 5+ years construction safety experience  
  • Training experience in mobile equipment, fall protection, overhead crane operation and hazard recognition & analysis 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both managerial and craft workers as necessary.   
  • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking  
  • Experience with safety requirements & standards for structural steel, metal decking, and rigging.
