Job Summary: As a highly skilled and experienced individual you will join our Data Services Team as a Developer III. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in handling various data import tasks and creating data access layers to retrieve data from multiple SQL databases. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing REST endpoints and front-end web applications to consume these endpoints and display data using various JavaScript libraries.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Data Services Team to handle data import tasks and create data access layers for retrieving data from various SQL databases.
  • Manage data imports from diverse sources, including government sites (national and foreign) and private entities, based on data needs.
  • Utilize a range of methods for data import, such as simple flat files, web API calls, and compound data structures requiring parsing.
  • Employ a variety of tools and technologies depending on the data sources, including Microsoft SQL Server, R statistical programming language, Python, and C#.
  • Develop REST endpoints to facilitate data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Design and implement front-end web applications to consume REST endpoints and display data in tabular formats or as data visualizations using JavaScript libraries.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance and support as needed.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Data Services, providing thought leadership and guidance on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.


Requirements:

Work Experience / Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data services, database management, and front-end development.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems, including Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as R, Python, and C#.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs and consuming APIs from front-end applications.
  • Proficiency in front-end web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with data visualization libraries such as D3.js and Highcharts.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Qualifications / Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
