  • Overview:
    AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a highly qualified Physician Assistant to join the healthcare team at Scott Air Force Base. The selected candidate will provide comprehensive medical care within a military treatment facility (MTF), focusing on primary and specialty care services. This role demands clinical excellence, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to healthcare delivery.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Primary and Specialty Care Services:
    • Deliver a full range of Physician Assistant services, including general screenings, routine examinations, and medical care for acute and chronic conditions across all organ systems.
    • Administer immunizations and provide preventive care in alignment with the MTF protocols.
    • Diagnose, treat, and counsel patients based on clinical findings, and prescribe medications according to the approved treatment protocols and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee guidelines.
  • Patient Management and Emergency Response:
    • Manage a variety of diseases and injuries, including acute, chronic, and minor trauma.
    • Recognize and respond to emergency conditions, initiating appropriate treatment or referrals to physicians for more complex cases.
    • Provide care during sick call hours (0730-0800), addressing the needs of acutely sick patients.
  • Clinical Collaboration and Education:
    • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
    • Provide technical direction, training, and educational lectures to staff members, participating in in-service training programs.
    • Teach patients and their families about health maintenance, positive health behaviors, and self-care responsibilities.
  • Administrative and Documentation Duties:
    • Complete patient charting within 72 hours of the patient encounter to ensure accurate and timely medical records.
    • Participate in staff meetings, including morning huddles at 0730 every workday and Prostaff meetings at 1530 on the 4th Thursday of each month.
    • Contribute to case discussions, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Additional Duties:
    • May be assigned to assist in other clinics within the MTF based on manning needs.
    • Establish collaborative rapport with the healthcare team to promote and facilitate primary care services.
  • Place of Performance:
  • The work will be performed at the 375th Medical Group / Medical Clinics or Offices at Scott Air Force Base, IL, and/or at the 375 MDG O'Fallon Family Medicine Clinic, St. Elizabeth Hospital, O'Fallon, IL.
  • Healthcare Workers (HCWs) will receive a notification two weeks prior to reassignment to another location within a 40-mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF.
  • Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • Certifications:
    • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Licensure:
    • Hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant as required by the Task Order.
  • Experience:
    • Sufficient experience to meet clinical competency requirements as specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions.
    • Ability to perform specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures within the scope of practice.
    • Strong communication skills to educate and counsel patients and collaborate with the healthcare team.
  • Work Schedule:
  • Duty Hours: Monday through Friday, eight hours per day, to be worked between 0700-1700.
  • Lunch Break: A one-hour uncompensated lunch break to be taken between 1100-1300, depending on clinic needs.
  • Work Week: 40 hours per week.
