Position Title: Manufacturing Technician
Department: Manufacturing
Location: Cheshire, CT
Reports To: Production Supervisor

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing Technician with experience in operating Bridgeport machines to join our production team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Bridgeport milling machines to produce high-quality components according to precise specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Operation:
    • Set up and operate Bridgeport milling machines to perform machining operations such as drilling, milling, and boring on various materials.
    • Set up, operate, and monitor manufacturing equipment to produce components and products according to specifications.
    • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine appropriate machine settings and tooling requirements.
    • Ensure that all machine operations are performed in compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
    • Assemble components and products according to detailed instructions, blueprints, or engineering drawings.
    • Use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment to assemble products.
    • Ensure that all parts are properly fitted, aligned, and meet the required specifications.
    • Perform manual or semi-automated assembly operations in a precise and efficient manner.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect workpieces throughout the machining process to ensure they meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
    • Make adjustments to machine settings as needed to maintain accuracy and precision in machining operations.
    • Document and report any discrepancies or defects in materials, tooling, or finished products.
  • Maintenance:
    • Identify and report any mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions to the maintenance team for prompt resolution.
    • Ensure the work area is clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with engineers, quality control inspectors, and other team members to ensure production goals are met.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and product quality.
    • Provide feedback on machining processes and suggest improvements to optimize workflow.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of machine settings, tooling changes, and production output.
    • Complete job travelers, inspection reports, and other required documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machining or related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years of experience operating Bridgeport milling machines or similar manual milling equipment.
    • Familiarity with machining processes, tool selection, and material properties.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
    • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 35 pounds.
    • Standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and metalworking fluids.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection is required.
