ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Refrigeration and Maintenance Manager directs and coordinates projects for maintenance and refrigeration teams. Responsible for overseeing the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems (ammonia). Additionally, oversees the facility's maintenance activities/projects, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and installation of machinery. As well as, log/maintain records of all applicable routine maintenance; and monitor work orders to ensure all projects have the tools/parts required to be completed on time. All duties are performed personally or through subordinate supervisors.

DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Active participation in Wawona Frozen Foods safety program to maintain a healthy and injury-free environment.
  • Participate in training and company meetings to facilitate individual and company growth.
  • Follow all GMP, HAACP, Food Safety, Food Defense, and SQF policies and procedures.
  • Schedules, supervises, and directs the work of staff, ensures the work is performed in accordance with sound safety practices and proper work methods or procedure.
  • Evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Complies with all environmental laws and regulations for chemicals and lubricants as well as disposal and storage.
  • Responsible for the hiring and recommendation for promotion and/or termination of the maintenance & refrigeration staff. Ensures maintenance & refrigeration staff are adequately trained.
  • Inspects plant machinery and equipment to ensure it's operating at peak efficiency.
  • Trains technicians on how to open valves on equipment such as compressors, pumps, and condensers to prepare the system for operation.
  • Monitors temperature, pressure, and ampere readings for system and equipment, adjusts controls or overrides automatic controls to obtain specified operation of equipment.
  • Proficient in electrical troubleshooting for control voltage 24VDC - 120VAC and high voltage 440 three phase.
  • Proficient with evaporative condensers, evaporators, TXV coils, flooded coils, liquid recirculation systems and pumps, low and medium temp systems, liquid transfer "dump" systems and various types of pumps.
  • Maintaining OSHA compliance on our refrigeration systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC systems, boiler/steam systems, domestic water heating systems, and electrical on all equipment.
  • Ability to read engineering schematics for troubleshooting procedures such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, hydraulic, and pneumatic.
  • Ability to provide direction for light fabrication.
  • Initiates changes that lead to energy savings and improved operational efficiency of equipment. Familiar with operational equipment efficiency (OEE) concepts.
  • Estimates materials, parts, tools and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for job.
  • Ensures work orders are timely and efficiently processed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related Field or Certification of completion from a trade school in a related field of study.
  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to work under time pressures.
  • Experience with packaging equipment manufacturers such as Hayssen, Holmatic, Osgood and Prodopak is preferred.
  • Experience in planning maintenance operations.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office 365 programs preferred.
  • Experienced in using ammonia refrigerant systems. Knowledgeable in all ammonia concepts.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated organizational capabilities, detail-oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent analytical and thinking skills to anticipate and identify issues and information requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent listening skills and strong communication skills.
  • A strong work ethic and a "can do" attitude.
  • Self-motivated and self-starter.
  • Ability to create and support team morale.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, One Drive)
  • ERP software experience required: Business Central, Navision, or Dynamics.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license.
