ABOUT MORGAN COUNTY RURAL ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION (MCREA)
Organized in 1937 as Colorado's third rural electric association, we energized our first 175 miles of lines the following year. Today, our service area covers approximately 4,000 square miles of northeastern Colorado and is divided into three representative districts. As a member-owned cooperative, we are dedicated to serving our members by providing safe, reliable energy with a strong tradition and vision for the future.

DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICAL LINEMAN
As a Journeyman Electrical Lineman, you work under the direction of our superintendent, foreman, or lead lineman. You perform numerous tasks including construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines. Skillfully, you dig pole and anchor holes, frame poles, and set poles and anchors before stringing, sagging, and connecting conductors. You also install pad mount gear and underground conductors.
Service-oriented, you perform a variety of duties for our customers including reading meters, making service changes, troubleshooting service outages, disconnecting and connecting services, voltage testing, and locating underground lines. You also maintain both underground and overhead electrical systems by replacing damaged transformers, breakers, regulators, conductors, insulators, meter loops, poles, switching gear, and other related equipment on both energized and de-energized lines.
As you work, you keep our trucks and job site clean and organized. If you notice anything that could be improved or changed to make the job easier, you let the team know. Additionally, you use your expertise to advise and assist in the training of our apprentice linemen. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICAL LINEMAN
- Current journeyman lineman certificate
- Valid first aid and CPR certification
- Class A Commercial Driver's License
- Pole top and bucket rescue experience
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, such as working from high places and lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Must be willing to live within a 20-mile radius or 30 minutes of our office location in Fort Morgan, CO
- Familiarity with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Rural Utilities Service (RUS) construction specifications, and the National Electrical Safety Code
- Basic understanding of the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system
