The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD or Clubs) CHANGES LIVES through quality programs and guidance in a safe, affordable, fun environment. Members are involved in age-appropriate activities based on our three priority outcomes: Academic Success, Character Development, and Healthy Lifestyles.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Wellness Program Director is primarily responsible for collaboratively developing, implementing, and facilitating the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego’s social and emotional wellness program. Collaborate with local universities to identify, supervise, and train MSW student interns, who provide clinical mental health services to our members. Work with key universities, partner organizations, and staff to ensure program requirements are being met. Implement dedicated time to provide the necessary time to MSW students in planning and preparation; incorporate theory and evidence-based practices into the interns training and development. Offer individual and group counseling services to identified Club members.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  1. Successful completion of pre-employment background check and maintaining a drug-free work environment.
  2. TB test if required by the school district.
  3. Valid Driver’s license and verification of insurance.
  4. Occasional weekend and evenings in support of fundraising events, committee meetings, and activities.
  5. CPR & First Aid Certification.
  6. Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or other related field such as counseling, psychology, marriage & family therapy, etc.
  7. Minimum of two years post-graduate experience.

FUNCTIONS WITH CORRESPONDING TASKS

1. PROGRAMS & YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

  1. Develop program curriculum and training that support and enhance the Social & Emotional Wellness program.
  2. Establish & oversee day-to-day programs, activities, and services that facilitate the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes that align with organizational objectives, meet members’ needs/interests, and build positive healthy relationships with adults.
  3. Provide guidance and role modeling to members to influence positive conduct, safety, and personal development.
  4. Incorporate theory and evidence-based practices into BGCGSD program operations.
  5. Provide weekly individual supervision and group supervision for interns.
  6. Coordinate program partners and consultants who can offer specialized instruction, support, and guidance to members and staff.
  7. Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas.

2.PROGRAM EVALUATION & REPORTING

  1. Collaborate with the Senior Vice President/COO to establish an annual operating plan and program goals.
  2. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs/interests.
  3. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation in the Wellness Program, including pre- and post-test surveys.
  4. Collect and share stories of impact with Senior Management.
  5. Oversee conduct, safety, and development of members, interns, and staff.
  6. Supervise the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensure programs and activities respond to members’ needs based on identity, gender, and cultural diversity.

3.LEADERSHIP & SUPERVISION

  1. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise MSW interns, staff, and volunteers.
  2. Conduct an annual, written performance evaluation (which includes goals and objectives to be met over the next evaluation period) of each staff member/intern.
  3. Ensure that staff attends all mandatory training.
  4. Personally complete the Foundation Level of Management in BGCA’s Leadership University within the first year of employment.
  5. Communicate with HR on all proposed written performance documentation, issues, and concerns with staff.
  6. Conduct individual coaching sessions with each staff/intern at least quarterly to discuss work performance, expectations, goals, and training.
  7. Demonstrated leadership to establish a code of conduct, safety, professional development, and a respectful workplace for all staff.

4.ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

  1. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and processes.
  2. Maintain, enhance & implement operating systems and procedures that help with effective management of the wellness program services.
  3. Create and implement social and emotional wellness forms to document work with members.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

5.BUDGET, FINANCE AND REPORTING

  1. Work with the Grant Administrator for the compliance of grant requirements and member participation to satisfy grant conditions; earn all potential grant revenue.
  2. Control program expenditures within budgeted allotments.
  3. Accountable for the proper maintenance of all financial documentation and records in accordance with BGCGSD policy and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or other related field such as counseling, psychology, marriage & family therapy, etc. Required
  2. A minimum of two (2) years relevant experience working in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people. Required
  3. Minimum of two years post-graduate experience. Required
  4. Aptitude to work well under pressure with multiple time constraints and changing deadlines. Must be able to work in an environment with shifting priorities and frequent interruptions.Required
  5. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide range of personalities using tact, diplomacy, and flexibility. Strong oral and written communication skills to convey accurate and correct information effectively through personal presentations and written material.Required
  6. Supervisory and leadership skills to effectively lead, motivate, manage staff, and evaluate the efforts of staff in the accomplishment of program goals; delegate and reassign tasks, monitor production and quality of work, set performance standards, assess individual capabilities and workloads, conduct performance evaluations, and mediate conflicts.Required
  7. Solid analytical skills for identifying areas for improvement and developing innovative solutions. Ability to recognize problems, conflicts, or impact on others, research options, present alternative, implement solutions, and follow through to ensure goals are met.Required
  8. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite; (Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience in scheduling and maintaining multiple calendars in Microsoft Outlook. Verified knowledge in database system management and reporting.Required
  9. Demonstrated presentation skills and experience conducting training, workshops, and seminars to various audiences. Knowledge of coaching strategies, and program evaluation techniques.Required
  10. Ability to effectively work with members including discipline problems.Required
  11. Previous work experience within a nonprofit is a plus. Preferred
