Position Description

The Power BI Engineer is tasked with the architectural design, implementation, and maintenance of Power BI solutions and their integration with other data systems. This role ensures the scalability, reliability, and performance of BI systems to support business intelligence and data analytics across the organization. The Power BI Engineer works closely with data architects, data engineers, and business analysts to design and implement robust data models, ETL processes, and integration strategies. This position involves setting up and managing the entire Power BI environment, including data gateways, security configurations, and performance tuning. Additionally, the Power BI Engineer plays a crucial role in establishing best practices, maintaining data governance, and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations. This role is expected to adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.

Key Competencies Required to be Successful as a Power BI Engineer:

  • Design and manage the architecture of Power BI solutions, including data sources, gateways, and security models.
  • Implement and maintain data pipelines for ETL processes to support BI solutions.
  • Integrate Power BI with other data systems and services, ensuring data consistency and security.
  • Optimize the performance of Power BI systems and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to align BI solutions with business goals and IT strategies.
  • Maintain and administer Power BI service environments, including capacity planning and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance policies and data protection regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for BI development teams and end-users.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for BI infrastructure and processes.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in BI technology and data engineering.
  • Manage budgets related to BI projects.
  • Provide cost-benefit analyses for Power BI solutions and reporting tools.
  • Monitor and control spending on Power BI licenses and related resources.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Education/Certification/Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field, 5+ years of experience in data engineering or BI engineering roles.

Skills That Will Make You Successful

  • Proven expertise in designing and managing BI infrastructure and data pipelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Power BI, including administration and security.
  • Extensive experience with data integration and ETL tools.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., Azure) and data warehousing solutions.
