Salary Grade: 5003 Per Class Code

Position Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Exempt


Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Director or designee, DOE LAPP Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Affairs (OEA) Los Alamos Pueblo Project (LAPP) field activities, to include implementing field projects in the environmental media of Soil, Air, Surface/Ground water sampling and monitoring, participation in DOE meetings, training sessions and review and comment of DOE documents. Duties include communicating with a variety of audiences; experience in environmental concepts; strong personal commitment to train and transfer technical skills to program; computer literacy, and availability to travel occasionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates field activities associated with DOE LAPP water, soil, air and other associated monitoring and sampling.
  • Identifies staff needs that arise during field activities and in the office.
  • Coordinates annual, bi-annual and quarterly sampling events to include special events as needed.
  • Ordering and maintaining sampling equipment and supplies.
  • Communicates with Database Coordinator on all issues regarding contract with analytical laboratory.
  • Ensures all DOE sampling and monitoring data is entered into the database.
  • Regular contact and interaction with Tribal, Federal and State programs, including attendance at various meetings conferences and training sessions.
  • Reports to Director on program activities through monthly reports. Respond to comments and amend reports as necessary following review with supervisor.
  • Responsible for ensuring field staff follow quality assurance project plans associated with all field activities and data collected is of the highest quality and legally defensible.
  • Attend DOE and LANL meetings as assigned.
  • Reviews DOE documents, studies, annual reports and prepares comments for Pueblo response coordinated through Tribal Administration.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly reports on DOE LAPP program accomplishments.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as required.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
  • Contributes to a team effort.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in environmental sampling techniques and quality assurance procedures.
  • Familiar and able to use computer technology and various software programs, especially MS Windows, Word, Excel, Access and Internet and e-mail programs.
  • Experience with Tribal governments, federal programs and grants is preferred.
  • Some in-state and out-of-state travel is required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid NM Driver's License and be insurable through Santa Clara Pueblo's insurance carrier.
  • Ability to act in an independent and conscientious manner using sound judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in the science or environmental media or related field is preferred however a combination of education from an accredited college, university, trade school or training facility in a related field and/or direct work experience in this occupation totaling 2 years may substitute for the degree. Experience time will be considered on an individual basis.
