SUMMARY: Responsible for creating a nurturing home for residents and provides care and services to meet their needs within an environment of hope, dignity, and love. The Cottage Coordinator works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, medical staff, visitors, and volunteers to create this positive environment.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Staff Coordination

  • Support the Mission and Ministry of St. John’s United
  • Is the liaison between the team and families, volunteers, community members, and all other members of the staff.
  • Is responsible for calling and conducting Team Meetings.
  • Is responsible for communicating team decisions to staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Staff Support

  • Communicates job expectations to team.
  • Is part of the call rotation
  • Assists staff with finding coverage when necessary.
  • Maintains quality service by complying with State and Federal Regulations governing employment law and Montana DPHHS Assisted Living Regulations and Quality Assurance Regulations.
  • Assists with monitoring, and appraisal of job performance under the supervision of AL Cottage Administrator.
  • Coaches employees under the supervision of AL Cottage Administrator.
  • Ensures all established policies are appropriately adhered to.
  • Ensures that each team has appropriate staff levels.
  • Assists in the hiring process of new team members.
  • Ensures all staff is appropriately trained via apprenticeship checklist, as well as spending at least one shift training each new staff.
  • Completes the schedule to ensure all shifts are covered and assists with filling in when and if there are holes in the schedule.
  • Assists teams with resident care, food/kitchen, and housekeeping

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Social Services

  • Tours potential residents, and family members
  • Assists in Marketing with AL and Chapel Court areas
  • Completes admission paperwork
  • Assist new residents transition into their new apartments/cottage


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Communication/Reporting

  • Will work hand in hand with the AL Cottage Administrator to communicate all information regarding staffing levels, staff communication and any staffing or scheduling challenges.
  • Assists coworkers with completing Incident Reports, and Medication Error Reports.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Safety

  • Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United
  • Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards
  • Attends mandatory safety in-services


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Mission/Customer Service

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Employee Responsibilities

  • Follows policy and procedures on TB testing.
  • Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
  • Completes all mandatory training.
  • Works under the general supervision of AL Cottage Administrator.
  • Has contact with the potential residents and their families.
  • Has daily contact with direct care staff to communicate pertinent resident admission information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Minimum Requirements: Prior experience in human service or health care setting preferred. Montana Certified Nurse Aide certification preferred or must complete the SJU CNA Course and obtain certification within 120 days of class completion.


Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • Ability to fosters teamwork, handle pressure.
  • Ability to provide appropriate feedback to staff and admin.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with residents, family members, and coworkers.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Need to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully pass required Montana state nurse aide certification exam.
  • Ability to use various health care supplies and equipment, including blood pressure devices, thermometers, wheelchairs, etc.
  • Ability to understand resident charts and service plans.
  • Ability to relate to and work with the ill, elderly, disabled, emotionally upset, and at times, combative people within the facility.
  • Ability to respond to residents needs in a timely and professional manner, recognizing the resident’s rights.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations (i.e. death & dying).


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires moderate physical work including lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves some exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work may involve exposure to hazards, blood borne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Normal health care environment.
  • Will receive the evening and night differential when working as a CNA.
