Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for coordination and scheduling of volunteers at the shelter and events. This position will also be responsible for the recruitment, selection, onboarding and training, and job distribution of all volunteers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Recruit and train new volunteers and serve as main contact for all volunteer communications. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all volunteers.
Participate in volunteer recruitment events and engage with the community at large as needed to recruit volunteers.
Provide guidance to all volunteers during their shifts and pair volunteers with appropriate staff for training at TMAS.
Manage volunteer management software (schedule shifts and communicate with volunteers).
Track volunteer hours to generate monthly and yearly reports.
Work with managers or other coordinators to evaluate volunteer staffing needs in all areas and set up schedules accordingly.
Schedule volunteers for events.
Connect regularly with volunteers personally to build and maintain a positive culture that reflects the values of TMAS.
Plan and lead volunteer open house bi-monthly.
Plan yearly volunteer appreciation day.
Must communicate clearly through a variety of avenues: emails, phone, social media.
Market and advertise the volunteer program.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Will be asked to communicate with volunteers in a professional manner.
Must be or become familiar with vaccine protocols, deworming protocols, and information about diseases prevalent in animals.
Must be able to cope with varying degrees of injured animals and with euthanasia.
Ability to cope with frustrating situations and remain calm.
Ability to rapidly and accurately process information.
Ability to work independently and work as a team.
Demonstrate capability to conduct ones self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations.
Demonstrate capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, and internet usage.
Record keeping, organization, time management, and planning skills.
Be creative and provide input that will strengthen our volunteer program.
Be efficient with written or typed wording, using correct grammar and paragraph form.
POTENTIAL FOR PROLONGED EXPOSURE
Prolonged exposure to various aqueous solutions, including but not limited to, dish soaps, laundry detergents, bleach, etc.
Prolonged exposure to hydrogen peroxide.
Prolonged exposure to various zoonotic diseases.
PREFERRED
High school education completed.
Have job-related experience. If no experience in this field, experience in leading teams and/or or clubs preferred.
Candidate should be a highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a positive, professional attitude.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The offices and operations of an animal shelter can be high stress and very busy at times. This position will typically have a set schedule (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 9 am to 6 pm), but could vary if help is needed in another area. Because we have limited staff, you will cross train in other areas in case help is needed.
