Job Summary:
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will provide subject matter expertise as a journey level Engineer supporting Fleet Readiness Center Southeast Fleet Support Team organizations, often at detached locations. The general responsibilities of this position are to provide professional Mechanical engineering services to maintenance and industrial shops which overhaul aircraft, aircraft engines, aircraft production support, avionics systems hardware and software test and evaluation, aircraft components, aerospace support equipment, and aircraft subsystems related to maintenance and in-service engineering of complex Naval aircraft and their associated systems. Engineering products include aircraft propulsion and power performance, analysis, efficiency, and maintenance support technical directives.
Essential Job Functions:
- Establishes rework directives and/or monitors aviation maintenance processes in the assigned areas of aviation related rework facility operations, including propulsion and power rework and operation.
- Solves specific and difficult engineering issues requiring analysis and evaluation of causes, effects, and alternatives. Communicates with higher level subject matter experts as needed to establish corrective actions.
- Resolves broadly defined engineering problems that require modification or adaptation of, or compromise with, standard guides, precedents, methods, and techniques.
- Utilizes state of the art engineering analysis and investigative acumen to support findings and defend conclusions pertaining to work for which precedent data, criteria, methods, and techniques are often controversial or unknown.
- Provides advice and instructions concerning the processing or repair of aircraft materials, parts, and/or assemblies undergoing rework, overhaul, repair, or modification on aircraft or weapons systems programs.
- Capable of performing necessary duties independently, as a member of a team, or in a technical lead role, depending upon the complexity of the project.
- Competent providing oversight and tracking compliance with issued Technical Directives.
Other Job Functions:
Leads, coordinates, and/or participates in meetings to discuss engineering issues, problems, and deficiency resolution planning. Provides professional technical expertise, oversight, and reporting to ensure that the latest advancements and application of engineering technology are considered and implemented. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:
Bachelor of Science or higher degree in a mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or related engineering field from an ABET accredited academic institution with 3 years of relevant work experience is required. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret level security clearance.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to learn and apply new information and/or skills. Must be able to interpret data, information, and documents. Occasionally will need to lift and/or move up to 10lbs, but this is a largely sedentary role; this role routinely uses office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Moderate environment temperature and noise level.
