WHO IS TOTAL JCB? We are the only dealer of JCB Equipment in Northern California and we're just getting started You will be on the ground floor of our growth as our first road mechanic. You'll work with a supportive General Manager, Service Manager, Part's Supervisor and shop mechanic. You'll be provided with a company truck so you can travel across the bay area to support our customers, with occasional travel to our larger Northern California territory. Along with all the support, you'll also get JCB specific training straight from the JCB team themselves


WHAT DOES A HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC DO? You can probably guess this part You'll be responsible for the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, including but not limited to hydraulics and electrical engines on construction and agricultural equipment. This is a Level III technician role, meaning you'll need to have 5+ years of experience independently repairing and servicing this type of equipment, and a willingness to continue learning of course More specifically, you'll:

  • Conduct repairs of heavy equipment, including hydraulics and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Keep accurate records of repairs and maintenance work performed.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure timely completion of repairs.
  • Follow all safety protocols including maintaining a safe and clean work truck.

BTW, we hire mechanics based on level of experience (I, II, III, Journeyman), and you will receive wage progression every six-months until you achieve journeyman status.

WHAT DO YOU PAY? This position will start between $39.60 and $41.80 DOE and will adjust to between $41.40 and $43.70 on September 1st, then again at each six-month milestone* until you reach journeyman. Our current journeyman rate is $44.00 and will adjust to $46.00 on September 1st.

* Wage increases are based on your demonstrated skills and overall performance.

WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED TO HAVE?


Required - Skills that will help ensure you are successful as a heavy equipment mechanic.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics and electrical engines.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience working with a computer tablet, typing, and taking photos.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office product suite (Outlook, Teams, etc.) and other dealer applications.
  • Ability to clearly describe in writing, specific equipment information and findings in English.
  • Ability to work safely under pressure, take general directions and use good judgement when working independently.
  • Ability to act in a way that is consistent with our values.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle and other industrial equipment to travel to customer site(s) and test equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Qualified DMV record, background check and drug screen.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Approximately 80% is spent bending, squatting, stooping, standing, or moving about the work area.
  • Approximately 20% is spent driving to and from customer sites and/or moving heavy equipment.
  • Operation of foot controls or repetitive foot movement required for driving equipment including heavy equipment and motor vehicle.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance from others or utilizing a lifting device.
