The ASPIRE part-time staff associate works as part of a team to provide after school services to middle school students and their families. The staff associate is responsible for leading and managing a classroom and/or providing virtual support to students. This includes providing academic support and delivering life skill and enrichment programming. The staff associate must attend weekly staff meetings and be able to execute lesson plans.
- Attend the ASPIRE program Monday 1:00-6:00pm, Tuesday– Friday, 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.
- Provide direct supervision of students in the ASPIRE Program, ensuring their physical and emotional safety while in the program.
- Manage a small classroom to provide direct support for students who need targeted, small group academic support.
- Responsible for ongoing communication with all four middle schools in Norwalk in order to gather student information and stay up to date with curriculum standards
- Develop positive relationships with students and adhere to a restorative, strengths-based perspective.
- Interact professionally and appropriately with students, parents, staff, school personnel, and volunteers.
- Work with ASPIRE Middle School Component supervisor and Manager of ASPIRE to create and revise program design as necessary.
- Develop organizational systems to monitor student progress.
- Maintain and create worksheets for students based on needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or Associates Degree with a minimum three years’ experience working with youth in an educational or social service setting with demonstrated classroom management skills.
- Valid Drivers License.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
- Skilled in Middle School Math and Science
- Knowledge about the Norwalk community and resources available.
- First Aid and CPR (adult and child) certified (can be obtained once hired).
- Must have awareness of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients served and an ability to work well with low-income families.
- Dependable, organized, consistent, flexible, and patient.
- Self-reflective & open/receptive to feedback & guidance.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – including Outlook, Word, Excel).
