POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is a core member of a project team whose primary responsibility is conducting research directed toward the discovery and development of novel materials, products, and processes. The Sr. Scientist exercises independent judgment in scientific development methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. They create formal networks involving coordination among groups and have broad expertise or unique knowledge in life science. The Sr. Scientist may have a small group of direct reports and uses skills to contribute to development of company objectives. This position is critical in helping the Company maximize the number of patients served while maintaining a high level of quality and safety.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures significant awareness is directed towards the quality of experimental evidence such as methodologies, data summary, interpretation, review of relevant literature, and documentation of reports in typical scientific format


Contributes to corporate intellectual property as well as to the scientific literature through experimental activity


Participates and consults with the internal and external scientific community to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge for application to achieving successful experimental outcomes


Evaluates techniques to solve problems and suggests or implements scientific recommendations


Evaluates experimental results for validity and conformance to acceptable scientific method


Establishes a strong network of internal technical experts to provide scientific guidance


Continuously learns of current technologies in area of specialty including that of the tissue processing and engineering field


Applies experimental and theoretical techniques to achieve project-specific objectives


May oversee the work of less experienced staff or conduct on-the-job training


Reviews and edits internal documentation and assists in the preparation and presentation of materials for internal or external technical reviews


Works closely with internal Manufacturing Leadership, Manufacturing Engineers, and Quality Engineers to develop manufacturing plans


Considers company capabilities, state-of-the-art parameters, and technical possibilities for each project

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Material Science/Polymer Science (biological applications), or Biochemistry


3-5 years of relevant working experience in material science or research roles


Physical Requirements:


Light work: Physically handle objects up to 20 lbs. occasionally.


Work Environment:


Office Setting - Open layout with assigned work station or office

Travel may be required occasionally (5-10%)
