Reporting to the Director of Education the Director of Mental Health Outreach and Engagement of Jacksonville Arts and Music School (JAMS) will be a passionate advocate of arts education and leadership training for youth. The JAMS Director of Mental Health Outreach and Engagement will implement the mission of “Empowering the creative leaders of tomorrow”, by establishing trust, cultivating creativity, and leading development of leadership skills among students and staff daily. 


Responsibilities 

Establish Trust 

  • Develop and implement comprehensive outreach and engagement strategies to increase community awareness and access to mental health services.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of mental health outreach programs that align with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Continuously assess and refine the mental health curriculum based on feedback, assessment data, and emerging best practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of outreach programs, using data to make informed decisions and continuously improve program effectiveness.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students, focusing on social and emotional well-being.
  • Serve as a resource for students seeking support and guidance in managing social and emotional challenges.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage and build partnerships with the local community, including families, local organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Lead initiatives to raise public awareness of mental health issues, including the development of educational materials, social media campaigns, and public speaking engagements.

Cultivate Creativity 

  • Create and deliver engaging professional development workshops and training sessions on mental resilience practices and strategies for JAMS staff.
  • Provide ongoing support and consultation to staff in implementing mental resilience techniques and addressing student needs.

Develop Leadership 

  • Conduct and coordinate What A Leader Leadership training sessions at community schools, focusing on the five core competencies: Confidence, Critical Thinking, Relationship Development, Communication, and Professionalism.
  • Design and implement training programs that emphasize the importance of the W.A.L competencies in fostering effective and supportive school leadership.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of leadership training and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and lead mental health resilience focused workshops, groups, and activities for students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Director of Mental Health Outreach and Engagement will work onsite, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.
  • The Director of Mental Health Outreach and Engagement will work a minimum of 40 hours a week, but as manyhours as necessary to accomplish the above tasks. The majority of hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the school year and 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during summer camp. The Director of Mental Health Outreach and Engagement will occasionally be required to work evenings and weekend hours to accommodate activities such as Board and/or Program Assessment Meetings or represent the organization at public events.

Qualifications 

  • Clear Level II Background Screening.
  • Punctual with reliable transportation.
  • Department of Children and Families (DCF) Credentials preferred.
  • Pediatric CPR and AED Credentials preferred.
  • Master’s degree in social work, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in mental health outreach, community engagement, or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of the social determinants of mental health.
