Director, Gore Giovale Center for Innovative Leadership


POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Provost, the director is responsible for the planning, direction, and administration of the Gore Giovale Center for Innovative Leadership. The Center is dedicated to ensuring students can move forward confidently in their lives and careers, lead from any place, and make a positive difference in the world.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership Certificate

The Center Director, in collaboration with the Dean of the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business who also supports graduate and professional studies, oversees the new undergraduate leadership certificate. The Center Director serves as advisor for students completing the new undergraduate leadership certificate. The certificate is designed to help students develop career competencies, and a means for students to customize their Westminster educational experience.


Leadership Programming

The Center Director develops programming with curricular links that may include a case competition, debate meet, etc. The Center Director will work with faculty and staff across campus to support the institutional goal of having every undergraduate student participate in a leadership experience. This work will be in partnership with the student affairs and athletics staff to impact existing student leadership programs while developing new opportunities to formalize student leadership.


Corporate Engagement and support of the Signature Student Experience

Set vision for Gore Giovale Center on corporate engagement initiatives prioritizing positive impact on the student experience and potential new institutional revenue sources. Collaborate w/campus and external partners on corporate engagement projects and events. Represent Westminster University at professional associations, meetings, conferences, and seminars to build new network relationships and opportunities. Facilitate the development of industry partnerships to provide employer paid and mentored research and internship opportunities for undergraduate students across all campus disciplines. Support the Signature Student Experience


Teaching

Teach introductory leadership course(s) that are part of the Leadership Certificate. There may be opportunities for additional teaching in areas of expertise.


Operations

Manage multiple budgets. Identify key fundraising opportunities and craft funding proposals. Prepare annual reports as appropriate. Represent area at University meetings, committees, and events.



ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Diversity and Inclusion

Promote an inclusive Westminster through demonstration of the commitments included in the Westminster University Diversity Statement. Participate in developmental activities to increase understanding and awareness of issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion both individually and as related to field of work, profession, or discipline.

Staff and Student Employee Supervision

Joint supervision of one staff member as detailed in the Supervisor Handbook. Supervision of several students employee/intern positions.


Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree and five or more years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong competencies in the areas of leadership, student development, and corporate engagement is preferred.
  • Experience in higher education organizations higher education.
  • High level writing skills, speaking, presentation, and organizational skills. Ability to respond to complex correspondence. Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to prepare and present project budgets. Command of digital spreadsheet software.
  • Capacity to create and monitor successful grant requests—including overseeing programs of work, tracking operational budgets and expenditures, etc.
