Job DescriptionJob Description

Reporting directly to the Technical Manager, the Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for the process design, operation, and process implementation. The incumbent will be able to improve tire manufacturing processes to optimize efficiency, improve functionality, reduce cost, and improve sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the ideal running conditions of all equipment in the Dayton factory
  • Has the ability to translate operator issues/requests into solutions
  • Improves efficiency of equipment
  • Improves robustness of equipment
  • Prioritizes projects and continues until completion
  • Responsible for capital projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, at or under budget
  • Aids in writing new processes and procedures
  • Views production and maintenance as the customer and works with them to improve equipment and processes
  • Works with the Process Specialist to develop solutions to issues in production
  • Responsible for problem solving within production processes with the goal of reducing product defects and improving processing efficiency
  • Assists in the standardization of control plans and auditing process
  • Serves as technical advisor to the production team
  • Establishes periodic contact with R & D to maintain an awareness of new technical developments
  • Provides guidance, direction, and training to personnel in respective areas as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Qualifications

  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills as role requires global interaction for support, audits, and training
  • Demonstrated ability to work on complex issues and to develop resolutions via in-depth evaluation of factors and/or frequent use of creativity
  • Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure
  • Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements
  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and practices
  • Team player attitude
  • Objective judgment and fact based decision making approach
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical methods, such as regression and correlation. High level understanding of statistical packages and databases, especially Microsoft office and Mini tab
  • Ability to accomplish assignments in a logical fashion, using existing technology and standardized methodologies
  • Strong multitasking competency

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred and/or equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position
  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge/certification a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be available to work over-time and weekends when needed
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position will not offer relocation or visa sponsorship.

Physical Requirements and Demands

  • Exposure to occasionally loud noise levels
  • Must be able to be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, mechanical equipment and vibration
  • This position will be required to work at multiple work stations
  • Must be able to tolerate odor from raw materials, freshly cured tires and hot materials
  • Ability to work in environment with limited climate control and varied temperature levels
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in an environment with continual noise, requiring the ability to hear, understand and communicate work instructions and directions while wearing company provided hearing protection
