What you'll do: The Regulatory Engineer is accountable for understanding, implementing, and revising all aspects of product/system Regulatory EMC and Safety compliance. Regulatory Standards will be implemented for a wide range of new and existing products and designs, covering Commercial, Industrial, Signage, Architectural market applications. A detailed working knowledge of EMI/EMC standards including FCC Part 15, EN 55032 and EN 55035 and of Safety standard IEC 62368-1 is required

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing guidance on Regulatory requirements to design and support teams globally, working closely with the New Product Design Engineer/Project Manager, and trouble-shooting issues that may arise - from product conception at the NPI stage through to final design and certification - while promoting a collaborative atmosphere of Quality awareness and continuous improvement within all levels of the company.

Essential Functions:

  • Implement and manage product Regulatory Compliance requirements necessary for relevant products and processes across all product groups on a global basis. Maintain objective evidence of compliance.
  • Develop and maintain the process to ensure that all documents concerning EMC compliance are current, up-to-date, implemented and stored in a safe and readily available location.
  • Participate in Design Reviews for key milestones in the NPI cycle by providing expert guidance from a regulatory compliance perspective and to ensure products, processes and systems are in compliance with relevant US and International standards and codes.
  • Work with the test labs, suppliers and regulatory agencies regarding their quoting and list of requirements for compliance to ensure all necessary coverage is provided but ensuring unnecessary and excess costs are avoided.
  • Manage the Regulatory review and approval of ECO's, NPIs and non-conforming Product.
  • Manage and co-ordinate all auditing activities and visits from external Regulatory and Safety agencies and notified bodies, including preparing Planar for the audits. Provide on-going support for Regulatory Affairs issues on released products, as identified internally through reports or customer feedback. Handle requests for data and information from Regulatory agencies, notified bodies and customers and reply in a timely manner.

Requirements

What you'll bring:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree required. Engineering or related technical degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Regulatory engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a high tech industry, preferably display-related. Demonstrated knowledge of LCD, LED, Digital Signage, Video Processors and related products preferred.
  • A detailed working knowledge of EMI/EMC standards including FCC Part 15, EN 55032 and EN 55035 and Safety standards including IEC 62368-1 is required. Basic knowledge of ErP, RoHS/WEEE, and European REACH directive is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and utilize standard Microsoft Applications as needed to create reports, Certificates of Compliance, and other related regulatory verification.
  • Proven ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate all phases of the regulatory process including initiation, development, implementation, internal testing, outside lab testing and ongoing verification of product compliance.
  • Ability to operate and communicate effectively under pressure. Ability to communicate clearly to US and Foreign regulatory, government and test agencies, US and foreign suppliers external customers and with a wide range of internal customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a global team including conducting business during non-standard hours.
