Job Description
Lumencor, Inc., based in Beaverton, Oregon, manufactures high-performance solid state lighting subsystems, "light engines," for bioanalytical instruments, medical devices, life science research tools and industrial applications like wafer defect inspection devices, quality control, and metrology. Products are sold worldwide to equipment manufacturers (OEMs), distributors, laboratories, individual researchers and industrial leaders. The company is seeking an Heath and Safety (HS) Manager to join our team.
The Heath and Safety (HS) Manager is responsible for building and maintaining a world class safety culture to reduce injuries and illnesses. The individual in this position will develop and own the safety program and be responsible for all facility matters.
**Responsibilities:**
* Lead the safety program and fully support the Laser/Light Safety Officer (LSO).
* Chair the safety committee meetings and set the standard for safe working techniques.
* Demonstrate how to properly comply with company safety policies, guidelines and procedures
* Promote and foster the attitude that health and safety is first and foremost in everything we do
* Take ownership of and drive a strong safety culture by: identifying unsafe conditions/behaviors and intervening to correct them; verifying co-workers routinely look out for one another and are pointing out unsafe actions and conditions to each other; developing training programs and providing company-wide training for all aspects of health and safety; creating and distributing proficiency tests and managing the training matrix; finding solutions to unsafe working conditions with mitigation, training, etc.
* Identify, design, and implement creative programs, solutions, and communication tools.
* Audit and inspect facilities for compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations and develop practices to ensure that everyone is engaged in creating and maintaining a safer workplace.
* Research, purchase and ensure team members have access to and have been properly trained on appropriate safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
* Draft, revise and maintain company procedures for safe work practices, safety fixtures, and equipment operation.
* Effectively present information in a way that facilitates learning.
* Adhere to established company values, practices, policies and procedures at all times. Follow and support compliance with all applicable safety rules, laws, regulations, and standards.
* Assist with managing facility maintenance and address issues in a timely manner.
* Apply engineering principles and techniques to the solution of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.
* Manage all HS and facilities support staff.
**Requirements:**
* A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a science: Environmental/Earth Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Safety/Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety or other related field.
* A minimum of 6-years experience managing and implementing an environmental, health, and safety program and initiatives in a manufacturing facility; or any satisfactory combination of education and experience demonstrating your ability to drive a strong safety culture.
* Strong planning and project management skills.
* General understanding of lasers, including the ANSI Z136 standards.
* Self-starter capable of working with limited supervision.
**Bonus Points:**
* Knowledge of IEC/EN 62471 and IEC/EN 60825-1 standards.
* Knowledge of ISO 14001 Quality Management System.
* OSH Certificate.
* LSO Certificate.
