Summary

JOB TITLE: Patient Account Representative Level I

ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: The mission of Mid-State Health Center is to provide sound primary care to the community, accessible to all regardless of their ability to pay.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:Responsible for insurance verification and to assist with collection of patient accounts.

Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Verifies patient insurance information via eligibility verification tools.
2.Assists patients with questions about their statement.
3.Answers inquiries and correspondence from patients and insurance companies.
4.Assigned special projects as needed.
5.Run various reports to post non-posted prepayments, no show reports, others as requested.
6.Assists with identifying and resolving patient billing complaints.
7.Assist with electronic health record testing when new services are added.
8.Ability to communicate effectively and clearly; work effectively with co-workers as a team member and perform duties of other business office personnel.
9.Participates in educational activities.
10.Maintains strictest confidentiality relating to patient care.

Requirements

EDUCATION:High school diploma or GED. Associate degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:One year of medical office experience.One year of medical insurance background preferred.

SKILLS and APTITUDES:

1.Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
2.Knowledge of computer programs, spreadsheets and applications.
3.Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
4.Knowledge of legal and regulatory government provisions
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective internal and external working relationships.
6.Skill to enter accurately data and examine insurance

7.Ability maintains strict confidentiality and reports any illegal or unethical act involving another employee or anyone acting on behalf of the organization.

8.Ability to respond to ever changing environment.

9.Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

10.Ability to react calmly and competently in emergency situations.

11.Ability to establish a positive interpersonal communication with patient/staff/providers.

12.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing, or by phone.

13.Ability to comply with established policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Work may require hand dexterity for office machine operation, stooping and bending to files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, or sitting for extended periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Requires manual and finger dexterity; for things such as typing, using calculator, and eye-hand coordination.
Requires the ability to plan and perform complex work that involves new or constantly changing problems where there is little accepted method or procedure.Involves participation in the formulation and carrying out of policies, objectives and programs for major divisions or functions.Considerable ingenuity and exceptional judgment required to deal with factors not easily evaluated, interpret results and make decisions carrying a great deal of responsibility.Direct and coordinate the work of subordinate supervision in order to attain objectives.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent telephone contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact involves dealing with sick people.
