General Description of Position:

The Financial Counselor plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial health of our practice and the satisfaction of our patients. This position involves creating financial estimates for both surgical and non-surgical procedures, facilitating patient payments, and acting as a liaison between patients and providers in accordance with the OrthoArkansas Financial Policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Financial Estimation:

    • Review all surgical and procedural cases for assigned physicians to determine insurance benefits and estimate patient responsibility.
    • Communicate with patients to inform them of their estimated financial obligations and arrange for prepayment.

  • Patient and Provider Liaison:

    • Serve as the primary contact for patients regarding their account status and any related questions.
    • Coordinate with Surgery Centers to confirm benefits and prepayment details for upcoming surgeries.

  • Account Management:

    • Collect outstanding balances on patient accounts, employing negotiation and strategic payment arrangements.
    • Educate patients about their payment options and available financial assistance programs.
    • Document and report payment information accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Review accounts for potential placement with collection agencies and communicate directly with these agencies regarding payments on collection accounts.

  • Policy Adherence:

    • Follow established financial policies and procedures of OrthoArkansas.
    • Ensure all interactions and processes are conducted professionally and in accordance with organizational standards.

  • Additional Duties:

    • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:

    • Equivalent to a high school diploma or GED, with a focus on office skills or related areas.
    • 0 to 6 months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Mental alertness and adaptability to office and fieldwork routines.
    • Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with patients, physicians, hospitals, insurance companies, and coworkers.
    • A thorough knowledge of orthopedic procedures/diagnoses and procedure codes is preferred.

    • Advanced: Alphanumeric Data Entry
    • Intermediate: 10-Key, Database, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing
