Plant Operator I

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays and is available for callouts.
- Monitors operating variables and keeps within normal parameters to ensure a safe and efficient operation.
- Performs inventories of chemicals used in area.
- Catches samples for gas chromatograph and water analysis.
- Provides detailed relief with other shifts.
- Inspects all equipment in assigned area.
- Completes unit rounds by taking readings, notes, and communicates all equipment problems to lead operator.
- Performs minor mechanical and/or maintenance activities.
- De-pressures, drains, flushes, steams and purges equipment.
- Performs LOTO on equipment.
- Issues work permits in assigned units.
- Oversees the preparation of process equipment for maintenance and keeps up with job tasks in your area.
- Performs the required activities to control the unit during normal and abnormal operation.
- Assists in prevention and correction of all operational issues.
- Inspects and lubricates mechanical equipment.
- Reads and executes the daily guidelines and provides feedback on progress or results to the lead operator.
- Troubleshoots process equipment and issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned by lead operator.
- Reviews and signs off on operator relief logs.
- Follows all safe work practices, and procedures required by PSM regulations.
- Writes work orders.
- Must maintain his/her performance per training and job knowledge requirements through periodic review.
- Participates and promotes good housekeeping.
- Communicates with outside vendors and customers.
- Ability to work outside in all-weather elements, cold, snow, ice, rain, heat etc.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Ability to analyze equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some refinery, petrochemical, gas processing, and/or oil field experience preferred.
Certifications:
- Process technology associate degree or certificate preferred.
Travel:
Travel required locally or long-distance up to 20% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.
Equipment:
Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to the position.
Working Conditions:
Mental and Physical Demands
Regularly required to walk, stand, crawl, climb stairs and bend; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms over shoulder height; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Frequent pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, bending, balance, depth perception, repetitive arm/hand movements, eye-hand-foot coordination, manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination) finger dexterity, vision acuity (far/near) and hearing acuity. May be required to climb ladders and/or stairs more than 50 ft. and work in confined spaces. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
May be required to spend 50% or greater of time in an outdoor setting. Will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintain emotional control under stress, work with interruptions and deadlines.
May work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Environmental Factors
May be exposed to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.). Will work in or around industrial and construction settings, which may include working with chemicals, hazardous products, processes, and materials. Exposure to loud machinery, moving mechanical parts and adverse weather conditions. Gaseous risk exposure and occasional dangerous driving conditions. Will work with petroleum products under high pressure and in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
