Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.

CDU is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, Community Health Worker (CHW) Academy, Program Coordinator will assist in the development, implementation, evaluation of the Community Health Worker Academy’s objectives and strategies. This is a hybrid position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports overall program goals through addressing multiple ongoing and parallel tasks in coordination with Program Director, Program Manager and clinical partners.
  • Helps design and implement curricular modules by selecting appropriate training materials based on The Community Health Worker Core Consensus Project’s (C3 Project) competencies.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of quantitative and qualitative evaluation tools to assess the linguistic and cultural appropriateness of the training curricula.
  • Coordinates federal, state and private foundation grant-related submissions, budget planning, data collection, reporting and auditing.
  • Monitor and coordinate student intern progress in accomplishing objectives.
  • Supports program facilitation, development and any needed expansion, including meeting with partners, students and collaborators.
  • Schedules meetings, distributes materials, arranges logistics, prepares agenda, and maintains minutes.
  • Supports both internal and external communication, including developing and presenting reports on the Academy and facilitating partnerships.
  • Leads career development and retention services to CHW Academy trainees and alumni including case management sessions, workshop facilitation, and career status assessments for prospective CHWs.
  • Leads recruitment and training of trainees to the CHW Academy.
  • Meets regularly with program staff to provide routine updates and seek consultation on participant cases.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Regionally accredited Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Education or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 1-3 years program coordinator related experience, preferably in public health research, education and training.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working as a CHW or working with CHWs is highly desirable.
  • Experience in higher education and managing federal and state grants is highly desirable.
  • Instructional design principles/practices in higher education preferred.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Strong background in the design of class content for curriculum development that is evidence-based, accessible, and engaging.
  • Grant management techniques, data collection, audit, evaluation, and grant reporting.
  • Ability to design and implement career development and retention services and materials.
  • Strong understanding about health equity and health disparities concepts.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, self-management skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills working with people with varying levels of education and training and different learning styles.
  • Ability to use PC for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, Canva and educational technologies and learning management systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain and build mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, when remote.
