Aypa is well-capitalized and uniquely positioned to lean forward on projects with well-suited deal structures to meet our customers’ needs. We have been at the forefront of energy storage development since our first energy storage project came online in 2018. As a leader in our industry, we now have over 22 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development and 33 projects in operation or construction across North America.
We are expanding our team and seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee our payroll operations. Reporting to the Controller, this individual will be responsible for processing payroll and managing all related functions for both US and Canada. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, adhere to payroll deadlines with great accuracy and timeliness, maintain strict confidentiality, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrate high levels of self-motivation, efficiency, and initiative.
Responsibilities:
- Manage payroll administration for US employees with the assistance of a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and for Canadian employees through Ceridian Powerpay;
- Oversee service performance delivery as contracted with the US PEO and Ceridian;
- Process payroll by verifying employment terms/deductions/adjustments, preparing related journal entries, and initiating payroll related disbursements;
- Work with PEO and Director of Tax to obtain state EIN registration (withholding, SUI, and any other agency);
- Perform regular audits of salaried/hourly payroll and contracted labor data with Human Resources and executive management to ensure accuracy and compliance;
- Administer benefits related remittances and filings;
- Prepare and file quarterly worker’s compensation (WSIB) filings and annual WSIB and employer health tax (EHT) reconciliations for Canadian payroll;
- Administer Canadian employee benefits, including retirement RRSP and DPSP contributions;
- Handle payroll-related inquiries from employees and management, providing timely and accurate information;
- Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard employee/contracted labor information;
- Manage time tracking and allocation process and system, related reporting, intercompany/related party allocation billings and journal entries;
- Keep necessary records to support transfer pricing analysis and inquiries;
- Assist with month-end closing activities and reconciliations related to payroll and provide annual audit support;
- Ad hoc reporting and analysis, including payroll and payroll/benefits administration forecasting and planning;
- Support provision of worker’s compensation certificates and assist with processing of any worker’s comp insurance claims;
- Stay updated on payroll regulations and best practices, ensuring payroll and related regulatory compliance in both US and Canada;
- Proactively collaborate and build a close partnership with Human Resources;
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- 7+ years of relevant payroll management experience, ideally with exposure to global payroll;
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field;
- Professional payroll administration credentials such as Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) strongly preferred;
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, familiarity with payroll software and systems;
- Experience with time tracking, intercompany billing, and automated payroll processes in a multi-currency and multi-entity environment preferred;
- Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy, while prioritizing tasks to meet critical deadlines.
Compensation and Location:
Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience.
Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on individual performance and the overall success of the business.

Location: Ability to work in the United States is a requirement. Preference is given to candidates located in Austin, TX, or willing to relocate.
