Minneapolis, United States Emergency Physicians Professional Association Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Emergency Physicians, PA (EPPA) is a physician owned and operated company with a Medical Scribe Program that includes 16 different locations throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul Greater Area and St. Cloud, MN. Specialties include emergency medicine, oncology, and dermatology.

A Medical Scribe works 1:1 with a physician (MD/DO), physician assistant (PA), or nurse practitioner (NP), accompanying them to each patient encounter. Scribes complete the Electronic Health Record (EHR) or patient charting in real-time enabling providers to spend more time with their patients and increase the overall workflow of the department. An EPPA Scribe types directing into the medical record everything that occurs during the patient's visit from start to finish: including the patient’s medical history, physical exam, patient outcomes, labs, imaging, dictations, and more. By working as an EPPA Medical Scribe you will become familiar with the workflow of medicine, medical decision-making process, medical terminology, different provider styles to patient care, and more.

*Please note that you will be required to upload a Resume and your Undergraduate Academic Transcript (may be unofficial).*

Being a Medical Scribe with EPPA is one of the best stepping stonework experiences prior to a Medical School or a Master's of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Medical scribing hours are recognized by all medical schools and most PA schools as paid clinical hours. The EPPA Scribe Program is designed to help you get to the next step in your desired healthcare career path.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Accurate, timely charting of patient encounters, including but not limited to patient history, physical exams, diagnostic findings, lab, and test results, consultations with other providers, treatment course, diagnoses, and discharge instructions.
  • Professional, non-intrusive interaction with patients (the scribe does not directly assist with patient care), providers, hospital staff, and other co-workers.
  • Compliance with all hospital, HIPAA, and EPPA policies, including those relating to the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Excellent job attendance. Scribes are held to the same attendance standards as the providers they work alongside.
  • All other duties, responsibilities, and/or projects as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate program with an emphasis in pre-medical/science coursework and labs, or have completed an undergraduate degree with professional school science pre-requisites and labs.
  • Completion of Organic Chemistry I is strongly preferred
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Prior healthcare-related work, direct patient care, volunteering, shadowing, and/or undergraduate research is strongly preferred

  • Excellent communication skills in grammatically correct written and verbal English language
  • Ability to spell, proofread, and edit written English text
  • Ability to problem solve in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Must be 18 years or older

*Please note that you will be required to upload a Resume and your Undergraduate Academic Transcript (may be unofficial).*

Hours and Commitment:

This is intended to show professional schools your ability to commit to a work position within healthcare but also provides the opportunity to learn a breadth of medicine, build relationships with our providers, and re-affirm your desires to pursue healthcare as a career.

All EPPA Scribes are required to work a minimum of 2 shifts per week, with shift length ranging 8-10 hrs including mornings, days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnights. Our scheduling is flexible with most student schedules and students are not required to work overnights during the semester.

Unfortunately, we do not offer seasonal or summer-only scribes positions at this time.

EPPA is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. EPPA does not currently participate in E-Verify for work eligibility.
