The Early Childhood Intervention Professional Role:Early Childhood Intervention professionals provide direct behavioral interventionfor clients ranging from birth to 21 years of age with developmental disabilities inclients’ homes or school, the clinical setting, and in the community with andwithout direct supervision. Intervention Professionals are expected to work withclients to teach and develop positive behavioral skills and self-regulationtechniques for clients to implement within their home, school, and communityenvironments.
Daily Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 behavior intervention to clients, between the ages of birth – 21 years with developmental disabilities.
  • Record daily data and keep detailed notes during therapy sessions.
  • Maintain open communication with clients and families on a set caseload. Provide family training when needed.
  • Collaborate with designated Clinical Supervisor to support service plans and meet all clients needs, working with other team members and departments.
  • Address and follow plans for maladaptive behaviors in multiple settings: community, school, and home.
  • Transport clients during therapy sessions to necessary settings/services.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate potential clients to determine eligibility for
  • services.
  • Provide monthly supervision for other birth to 3-year-old providers.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in a qualifying field of study (please see “option 3” below).
  • A minimum of 1,200 relevant hours of experience in completing and implementing comprehensive behavioral therapies for individuals with functional or behavioral needs.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients, families and coworkers.
  • Birth to 3 years qualification, met through one of the following options:
Option 1: Elementary education certificate or special education certificate with an endorsement in early childhood special education.Option 2: Blended Early Childhood or Early Childhood Special Education (EC or ECSE) certificate.Option 3: Master’s degree in special education, elementary education, early childhood education, or psychology, and a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester credits covering:
  1. Promotion of development and learning for birth-5.
  2. Assessment and observation methods developmentally appropriate for young children with developmental disabilities.
  3. Building family and community relationships to support early interventions.
  4. Development of appropriate curriculum for young children.
  5. Implementation of instructional and developmentally effective approaches for early learning, including strategies for children and their families.
  6. Demonstration of knowledge of policies and procedures in special education and early intervention, and knowledge of exceptionalities.
