Job Summary

Mirbeau Inn and Spa is seeking a Banquet Captain/Catering Sales Assistant to lead the Food and Beverage staff during corporate and social banquet events. The Banquet Captain will assist will the event set up, service, clean-up, billing and training of employees while conforming to Mirbeau Inn and Spa's standard of excellence and quality, professionalism, and friendliness. Ideal candidate will have at least 2 years prior experience in a leadership role for fine dining or events and have open availability to work morning, evenings, weekends and overtime as needed.

Pay Rate: $18-$20 p/hour +tips

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to Food & Beverage Manager and Sales Department and indirectly to General Manager
  • Responsible for the appearances of all venues before and during events
  • Be present and responsible for all banquet events
  • Participate in weekly BEO meeting
  • Communication of BEO's and updates to employee(s) working event
  • Responsible for the ordering of banquet rentals in conjunction with Food and Beverage Manager
  • Maintain complete knowledge of service requirements for each scheduled function:
  • Groups' names and background/purpose of event
  • Name of group's main contact and contact information
  • General group itinerary, including both on and off property activities
  • Detailed menu selections and service times
  • Expected attendance and seating arrangements
  • Special requests/arrangements and dietary restrictions
  • Billing and payment arrangements
  • Maintain complete knowledge of strictly abiding by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving.
  • Check storage areas for proper supplies, organization and cleanliness. Instruct designated personnel to rectify any cleanliness/organization deficiencies.
  • Conduct pre-function meetings with Servers and review all information pertinent to set-up and service of group.
  • Inspect grooming and attire of staff; rectify any deficiencies.
  • Inspect table set-ups; check for cleanliness, neatness and agreement with group requirements and departmental standards; rectify deficiencies with respective personnel.
  • Check bar set-ups for cleanliness, organization and agreement with group requirements and departmental standards; resolve any problems.
  • Communicate all issues to Sales Director/Sales Manager
  • Act as point of contact for all concerns and complaints during events
  • Work flexible hours as necessitated by banquet schedule including early mornings, nights, weekends, and over time as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels for all banquets. Motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Constantly monitor staff appearance, attitude and degree of professionalism to ensure their strict adherence to The Mirbeau Inn & Spa standards of quality service.
  • Attend staff meetings, events and other functions required by management.
  • Conduct and/or organize weekly training sessions on topics dedicated to improving staff knowledge, sales and service techniques. Oversee and direct the service team to meet and exceed all guest needs.

Qualifications, Skills & Educational Requirements

This position requires a pleasant personality and neat appearance. Knowledge on food and beverage items, as well as experience in the events realm and service industry is required. The ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and lift 40 lbs. is desired.
