Big Lick Veterinary Services in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking a full time Veterinary Assistant to add to our team. We are a growing small animal practice dedicated to providing the highest level of veterinary medicine along with friendly, compassionate service. Hour of Operation: Monday - Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
-Perform all aspects of routine pet care. Walk, feed, monitor, observe, and care for animals in-clinic. Administer medications when needed and obtain vital signs.
-Bathe animals when necessary.
-Comfort and restrain patients, handling them in ways that are always efficient, compassionate, and safe for both the patient and the staff during examinations and procedures like radiographs, ultrasound, etc.
-Assist doctors and vet techs with appointments, prep patients for surgery and minor procedures, and proactively set up any equipment and/or tools to be used for a patient.
-Assist veterinarians and vet technicians with lab work and prepare sample to be sent to reference laboratory at the end of the day. Includes running in house analyzers, fecals, snap tests, urinalysis, etc.
-Communicate with clients and ensure client understanding of all relevant information over the phone and in person.
-Answer phones and assist front desk staff when needed.
-Take notes on examination results and update records. Take medical history from pet owners and relay to veterinarian.
-Stock medical supplies as needed.
-Fill prescriptions.
-Perform other duties as assigned by management, doctors, receptionists, and veterinary technicians to assist in the smooth flow of the daily operation of the clinic.
-Clean, sterilize, and maintain kennels, operating rooms, exam rooms, cages, and surgical equipment. Includes housekeeping and general cleaning of clinic.
-Perform some clerical duties.
-Act as the go-between for clients and doctors, relaying pertinent information confidently to both.
-Admit and discharge patients, providing owners educational resources and information on how best to care for animals in general, for specific conditions and after various procedures.

-Contribute to team meetings, attending team events, and providing input into challenges.

Requirements:

Education: High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience: Veterinary - 1 Year (Preferred)

Schedule: Monday to Friday
