Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPemex Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX, and is a part of the Pemex group which is a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics and marketing. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crudes to produce the high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. The Pemex site is co-located with other 3rd party chemical facilities allowing for further integration and optimization of the refinery and its products.

Hydrocarbon Accounting Analyst

Scope:
  • $1 bn sales/month (Gas, Diesel primary products sold)
  • 10 mln bbls valued at $1 bn crude purchases/month

The Deer Park Hydrocarbon Accounting Analyst is a member of a 7-person team and will be responsible for supporting the activities associated with crude and product purchases and sales for the refinery.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that all hydrocarbon activity is accurately recorded in SAP Financial system
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the products, crudes and associated movements between the Refinery and third parties as well as the pricing structure for the movements
  • Ensure all invoices are verified against schedules, contracts and 3rd party statements.
  • Become the liaison with 3rd parities relating to sending and receiving Hydrocarbon invoices
  • Manage and reconcile A/R and A/P accounts (as well as other assigned account balances) to ensure timely payments for all activity, any discrepancies or past dues to be identified and resolved
  • Responsible for the positive outcome of internal and external audits
  • Identify and implement work process improvements with focus on documenting learnings and ensuring desk documentation is kept up to date
  • As a member of the Finance team, will be assigned projects/activities in line with development goals where there is space on the desk to support work outside of the day to day Hydrocarbon Accounting activities.
Special Challenges:
The Hydrocarbon Finance space is a fast-past environment where adaptability and resilience is key with a focus on efficiencies and continuous improvement.
Strong collaboration and communication skills are a must. Manual-intensive environment given lack of automation and tools to support activities in this space. S4Hana implementation currently underway with a go-live date of January 2026.

Qualifications:
  • 15+ years’ experience in accounting
  • Microsoft Suite, SAP, Power BI, OAS preferred
  • Oil & Gas experience, Refinery experience preferred
  • Able to gain the confidence of various internal and external parties building on strong knowledge and communication skills
  • Problem solving mindset with the courage to question non-routine items by bringing analytics and insights to the table
  • Ability to apply a practical approach to problem solving, coupled with the ability to rationalize decisions with significant uncertainty and incomplete info
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to relay financial information to people with different financial backgrounds
  • Ability to understand end-users needs and translate into successful delivery
  • Continuous improvement mindset and ability to function well within a team
