Cost Accountant

Hoxton Circle has partner with a Salinas Valley area client to add a Cost Accountant with strong operations skills through a contract/temp to permanent route. Experience in consumer package manufacturing and agriculture highly preferred but open to industry. The contract phase length will be dictated on candidate performance, with medical benefits available through Hoxton Circle before becoming permanent with the client.

Duties:

• Develop and maintain cost accounting systems to ensure accurate cost allocation for products and projects.
• Analyze manufacturing costs, labor, and overhead to provide detailed cost reports and variance analysis.
• Work closely with operations, sales teams and copackers to monitor and control production and purchasing costs.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Prepare and analyze balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals.
• Support the Financial Accountant in the preparation of management reports and financial summaries.
• Participate in the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing cost data and financial analysis to support decision-making.
• Monitor actual expenses against budgeted figures and report variances to management.
• Maintain accurate inventory records, conduct periodic inventory counts, and reconcile discrepancies.
• Analyze inventory valuations and ensure proper costing methods are applied.
• Process and review accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as operations and sales, to gather necessary information for accurate costing and financial reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, preferably within the CPG industry.
• At least 2 years' experience in consumer-packaged goods highly desired.
• Solid understanding of GAAP (3 years exp required) accounting principles, cost accounting, and financial reporting standards.
