Position Summary
The Family Navigator is a full-time, grant funded position supporting the Letcher Promise Neighborhood initiative. Reporting to the Program Manager the Family Navigator (FN) works to ensure effective implementation of integrated services within the critical area of the cradle to career continuum. Through the use of evidenced-based programming, incumbent will drive results that ensure families are engaged and actively support their child's learning. The Family Navigator collaborates with families to develop a comprehensive, family-specific plan to increase learning opportunities and activities to help prepare children for transition through school, along with continuous mentoring and coaching. Additionally, the Family Navigator collaborates with other staff to provide tailored services addressing individual family needs tailored to serve the whole child and family; provides resources and training to staff and community partners regarding effective family engagement programs; evaluates family engagement activities to ensure programming meets PN program outcomes; and works with partner agencies to offer additional research-based family engagement programming. The position leads and operates with the goal that All Rural Students Succeed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Promise Neighborhood (PN) results and objectives.
- Partner with Student Success Navigators to support student achievement toward PN target and results.
- Ensure that required documentation and records of services are appropriately collected and filed.
- Collaborate with other members of the PN team to ensure the effective delivery of services along the PN pipeline.
- Provide leadership while working collaboratively with partners to implement the comprehensive program plan.
- Assess needs of students, families, and school and evaluate the impact of the PN program on these groups as well as continually modify services to best meet needs.
- Communicate the PN mission and vision to community, parents, staff, and students.
- Perform other duties necessary to achieve program success.
Position Location & Schedule
The Family Navigator will be located primarily in the Jenkins/Letcher County, KY community with local, state, and sometimes national travel required. This position may be considered for Hybrid work.
Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET with in-office, hybrid and/or remote work a possibility. Because of the nature of the responsibility to schools, partners, funders, and to the service region, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening and/or weekend hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Education required to ensure success in this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field, plus applicable experience
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
- Experience in program coordination
- Experience and knowledge in family engagement
- Experience working in rural schools and communities
- Event planning
- Experience in effective coordination within rural schools and communities
- Understanding of first-generation, low-income youth
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of Promise Neighborhood initiative
- Skills and knowledge of coordinating a multi-faceted program
- Commitment to students from diverse economic, social and cultural backgrounds
- Strong desire to develop innovative approaches to meet outcomes

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, Adobe, data processing & financial spreadsheets
License, certification, or registration necessary:
- Valid driver’s license
- Successfully complete pre-employment background check
Physical requirements:
- Ability to work in a high-energy office

- Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer software programs

- Ability to travel independently by car and plane to eastern Kentucky, statewide sites, and nationally
