The Agnes Irwin School is seeking a Lower School Learning Specialist to join our faculty for the 2024-2025 academic year.  Working closely with the Director of the Lower School, Department Chair of Student Support, and Coordinator of Lower School Student Support, the Learning Specialist will be a member of the Lower School Student Support Team and provide high-level learning support for lower school students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Administer benchmark assessments and use data and observations to identify students who need additional learning support beyond the core instruction provided in the classroom
  • Provide push-in support or pull-out, small group support for students in grades K-4 who need targeted remedial interventions in literacy and/or math skills
  • Use progress monitoring data to inform instruction and maintain flexible groupings
  • Work with students in grades K-4 who need targeted enrichment interventions
  • Co-teach, model, demonstrate, observe, provide feedback to and consult with teachers on using varied strategies and approaches for adapting curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Support teachers in implementing accommodations for students with documented learning differences
  • Communicate frequently and build strong, collaborative  relationships with parents, teachers, and outside professionals on behalf of students
  • Foster a learning environment that builds on student strengths and promotes a growth mindset


Successful candidates will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in elementary education or a related field; Master's degree in Reading or Special Education preferred
  • PA Teaching Certification preferred
  • Experience working with students with documented learning differences 
  •  Evidence of excellent classroom and teaching experience; deep understanding of current learning trends and methodologies
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents: students, parents, teachers, administrators and outside professionals
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and respect different values and viewpoints
