Boston, United States Sunrock Distributed Generation Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Solar Project Manager

Sunrock Distributed Generation is a developer, long-term operator, and financier of solar assets deployed on the properties of businesses, municipalities and nonprofits across the USA. Leveraging an unmatched network of trusted partners and installers, tech-enabled operational efficiency, and a proprietary underwriting method, we design solar and distributed generation solutions tailored to the needs of organizations previously unable to access the benefits of solar energy. Our approach emphasizes enabling businesses to maximize the benefits of solar and distributed energy solutions, regardless of project size. We offer Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with zero upfront investment, positioning us as the trusted platform for commercial solar DG projects of any size.

We have received investment from Greenbacker Development Opportunities Fund I, L.P. (“GDEV”), a leading infrastructure fund that has deployed approximately $3.8 Bn in capital in sustainable infrastructure investments, acquiring, constructing and operating over 3.3GW renewable energy assets.

We are looking for a Solar Project Manager to join our top-notch team of experts building solar, storage, electric vehicle, and other distributed energy solutions across the U.S. We are seeking an individual to lead commercial solar projects through engineering, utility, city permit and installation milestones, including supervising, coordinating, and communicating with vendors and subcontractors. An ideal candidate will have prior experience constructing energy projects, knowledge in electrical / structural engineering, a technology mindset and an interest in long term relationship building. Take advantage of the opportunity to have a big impact on the growth of clean and renewable technologies

Key responsibilities for this role will include (but not limited to):

  • Managing, supervising, and coordinating with EPC partners and their subcontractors/installers to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
  • Coordination of all construction deliverables from engineering, interconnection, and permits to construction and commissioning, through a project management software platform
  • Collaboration with internal teams, customers, vendors, and installers to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Creating or helping prepare reports capturing major project milestones, important remarks, risk assessments, and other key indicators
  • Collaborating with utility personnel from the company to obtain fast interconnection approval and permission to operate within their service zone
  • Proactively engaging with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate risks
  • Investigating new design and construction standards, innovations, code modifications, and value engineering opportunities, and put those ideas into action through a collaborative process
  • Handling construction contracting, deliverables, timetables, and change order reviews from project engineering to construction and commissioning
  • Enhancing offtaker and EPC satisfaction by maintaining effective cooperation and communication
  • Evaluating and maintaining technical specifications, designs, scopes of work, commissioning reports, and other energy-related documents, as well as examining and responding to Contractor RFIs
  • Supervising and/or conducting regular partner and customer-facing meetings at critical project milestones

Required and desired skillsets, experience, and qualifications for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, planning, or engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading and managing EPC/construction projects, particularly for a rooftop solar developer.
  • Experience working in solar or real estate, ideally solar
  • Expertise handling power purchase agreements with stringent commissioning requirements, as well as design-build, operation and maintenance, storage, and energy-as-a-service agreements
  • Skilled in the renewable energy market managing complicated multi-site portfolios and doing due diligence
  • Demonstrated track record of achievement in project execution/construction in the renewable energy business
  • Renewable energy, solar, storage, and electric vehicle knowledge and experience are strongly recommended
  • Familiar with Excel, other MS Office software and project management software or platforms

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
The candidate is ideally located in Boston, but can be flexible to be a remote role. This role may involve travel to sites nation-wide, and occasional in-person team meetings in Baltimore.
