The Elementary Music & Band Teacher is a full- time teaching position at Rainier Christian Schools. This position spans the elementary music program at two elementary school locations, Kent View Elementary and Maple Valley Elementary. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in an elementary setting, with appropriate musical skills for singing, playing, conducting, and musical literature necessary for the implementation of curriculum appropriate to grade-level. The teacher will provide leadership, creativity, and planning to continue to grow the music program both in quality and size and enthusiastically desire students appreciate and find joy in creating within the context of music.

The teacher shall:

  • Reflect the purpose of the school, which is to “Educate and Develop the Whole Person for the Glory of God”
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of a comprehensive field of knowledge,
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in an elementary setting, with appropriate musical skills for singing, playing, conducting, and musical literature necessary for the implementation of curriculum appropriate to grade-level, normally attained through a bachelor’s degree or higher in related field; at least 3 years of prior related experience is preferred
  • Teach classes as assigned following the prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the Administrator
  • Keep an attractive, clean, well-ordered, classroom
  • Provide leadership, and planning, keeping proper order and discipline in the classroom, through a positive, creative learning environment to grow the music program both in quality and size
  • Passionately desire for students to appreciate and find joy in creating within the context of music, using valid and creative teaching techniques to challenge each student to achieve high goals
  • Employ a variety of instructional methods and materials that will creatively reach the whole student – spiritual, mental, physical, social and emotional
  • Assess the progress of each student regularly, using the prescribed tools effectively
  • Proactively communicate with students, parents, and the administration, providing sufficient notice of deficiencies and failure, following established guidelines
  • Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity and consideration
  • Control the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.
  • Know the procedures for dealing with emergency situations
  • Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher
  • Inform the administration in a timely manner if unable to perform assigned duties
