Summary
Under the direction of Chief Counsel, this position provides legal assistance and support to the management and staff of the Summit County Land Bank (SCLB), related to the SCLB’s mission and role in the community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing day-to-day support to Chief Counsel, the Executive Director, management, and staff, for all aspects of assigned legal responsibilities. Duties may include interpreting and preparing legal documents and reports, analyzing proposed and existing legislation, drafting, reviewing, and auditing company policies, procedures, and program guidelines, monitoring and ensuring legal compliance, managing risk, guarding against exposure for legal liability, and assisting with various special projects and priorities. Typical areas of responsibility for this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Contracts & Contracts Management
- Policies, Procedures, and Program Guidelines Management
- Insurance, Compliance, Audit, & Risk Management
- Records Management & Retention
- Real Estate Transactions
- Human Resources, Conflict of Interest, and Employment Law
- Public Policy and Legislation
The Staff Attorney may be required to represent the SCLB in the community and regularly interacts with local, state, federal, nonprofit, and private stakeholders, and the public, and will be required to perform any, and all, other duties or functions that may be necessary and in the best interests of the efficient operations of the SCLB.
Education and/or Experience
Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association accredited law school required. Applicant must be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and be a member, in good standing, of the Ohio State Bar Association. Interest or experience in contracts, real estate/property law, public/government law, or another related field, preferred. This position is ideal for a new, or recently licensed, attorney with 0-2 years of experience.

Use of Electronic Resources
This position requires an above-average proficiency and comfort level in using, learning to use, or adapting to, electronic resources and other technologies. The SCLB is ‘paperless’ office.
Travel
The successful candidate for this position must be able to travel to attend conferences, trainings, meetings, and other events, as required, to acquire and maintain proficiency in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position. Some evenings and weekend work may be required.
Not a Public Position
The Summit County Land Bank is a nonprofit community improvement corporation, organized pursuant to Chapters 1724 and 1702 of the Ohio Revised Code. This position is not a “public” position and does not participate in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System. However, the Summit County Land Bank does offer an extremely competitive benefits package, including retirement.
