The Training and Volunteer Program Coordinator will develop, coordinate and maintain the volunteer program and the initial Advocate Core Training (ACT).  Assist with ongoing direct service training, as assigned. Provides outreach and training in the community to service providers and community members.

Job Title:                                 Training and Volunteer Program Coordinator

Reports to:                              Human Resources Director

FLSA Status:                           Non-exempt

Number of Hours Per Week:   35 hours per week

Schedule:                                 Monday - Thursday with flexibility. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.

Salary Range:                         Schedule D

SUMMARY

Develop, coordinate and maintain volunteer program and the initial Advocate Core Training (ACT). Assist with ongoing direct service training, as assigned. Provides outreach and training in the community to service providers and community members.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this position include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


A.                 Develop, coordinate and maintain volunteer program.

  1. Identify and implement strategies to strengthen volunteer
  2. Maintain regular volunteer contact and provide support, assistance, direction, feedback and motivation to volunteers and
  3. Support program managers and directors in maintaining active volunteer base to encourage long-term volunteer
  4. Further develop the mentorship program and assist supervisors and/or mentors with personnel issues, conflict resolution, or needed
  5. Attend program meetings, as needed, and work with program team in order to ensure continuity and certification of initial volunteer training. Attend other meetings and trainings as required by
  6. Attend direct service trainings in order to maintain continuing education


B.                  Organize and implement recruitment for new volunteers and interns at least twice a year.

  1. Gather staff input to identify agency volunteer
  2. Develop recruitment strategies that enhance diversity and
  3. Create and distribute outreach recruitment materials.
  4. Contact colleges in the local area to develop an ongoing internship program for the fall training.
  5. Work with leadership team to develop robust intern development


C.                 Organize and implement initial SafePlace Advocate Core Training (ACT) for volunteers, new employees, Board members, and for paying community members.

  1. Develop training team and schedule
  2. Utilize accreditation training curriculum certified by
  3. Process volunteer applications, and interview and assess volunteer applicants for alignment with SafePlace culture and
  4. Facilitate trainings to ensure continuity and manage group
  5. Develop and maintain curriculum for ACT training.


  1. Ensure a completed attendance record is maintained for each training class on the agency drive.
  2. Determine appropriateness of volunteer participation throughout and following the training.
  3. Ensure volunteers complete any missed
  4. Assist in the placement of volunteers into the agency, analyzing volunteer strengths and agency
  5. Work with agency staff to provide initial on-the-job training of
  6. Plan and execute annual volunteer appreciation activities.


D.                 Participate in planning in-house training for current SafePlace staff.

  1. As a member of the Program Team, work with the Community Services Program Manager, the Youth and Parenting Program Manager, and the Residential Services Program Manager on the ongoing staff training
  2. Assist with the coordination and implementation of the annual staff training


E.                  Assist in the delivery of Community Education Classes and Speaking Engagements.1.                   Collaborate with the Community Services Program Manager.2.                   Develop and update presentation materials tailored to different community groups.


  1. Perform administrative tasks as they relate to documenting, organizing and maintaining the volunteer program.
    1. Set up, update and maintain volunteer personnel files with oversight from Human Resources.
    2. Ensure completion of volunteer application, background checks, and other initial paperwork.
    3. Maintain accurate, up-to-date volunteer personnel files, including initial and ongoing SafePlace training
    4. Maintain volunteer InfoNet records and document ongoing training.
    5. Ensure volunteers track their general activities and submit hours-worked monthly for grants purposes.


G.                 Complete training curriculum application for accreditation every two years.


  1. Maintain regular communication with the Human Resources Director, Program Director, and other agency personnel, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years’ experience providing services in domestic violence and/or sexual assault program, crisis intervention, or prevention
  • At least one year’s experience in training coordination, volunteer recruitment, or facilitation.
  • Experience in organizing and developing training curriculum and
  • Intermediate level computer skills, including word processing, and knowledge of Internet and e-mail.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts in a fair and respectful
  • Ability to carry out multiple
  • Ability to handle detailed work
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
  • Ability to work cooperatively with
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a crisis intervention work
  • Ability to understand and communicate with people of different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Have car and current automobile liability insurance or have access to


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, women’s studies or similar fields of
  • Completion of the initial SafePlace ACT
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English.
  • Current CPR/First aid training

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, women’s studies or similar fields of study preferred.

 

Specific knowledge, experience and abilities acquired must include the following:

  1. Knowledge of principles and practices of volunteer management.
  2. Experience in organizing and developing training curriculum and
  3. Excellent training
  4. Experience providing services in domestic violence and/or sexual assault
  5. Experience in participating in a team oriented work
  6. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work with a diverse

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The Volunteer Program Coordinator, however, is expected to provide on-the-job training; provide direction, support, feedback and motivation to volunteers, interns and coworkers; and address any complaints and any resolve problems or issues that emerge. A termination of a volunteer must be made in conjunction with the Human Resources Director.

TRAINING REQUIRED

Employee is required to complete the initial SafePlace ACT Training and 20 hours of non-profit management training. Employee must attend 20 hours of on-going direct service training a year, which must include 15 hours advocacy, 12 hours of sexual assault training and 3 hours of CPR training.
