Position Purpose:

As the Children's Coordinator, your primary responsibility will involve delivering wrap-around services to minority and low-income pregnant and postpartum women, as well as their children and families at the Women’s Residential Rehab Treatment Program in South Los Angeles. The Children’s coordinator will implement evidence-based practices, including Motivational Interviewing, Nurturing Parenting Program, and Celebrating Families, to guide positive transformations.

This position’s responsibilities extend to providing essential support to women, children, and families affected by substance abuse. This involves comprehensive knowledge and application of child development, trauma-informed care, substance abuse, and mental health, significantly contributing to the holistic well-being of the individuals and families.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Provide case management services to children of PPW participants, such as medical and dental appointments.
  2. Coordinate enrollment in offsite day care, school, and/or after-school activities.
  3. Create a daily activities calendar for children residing on the property and for when children visit their mothers.
  4. Support mothers in reading, singing, and playing with their children to foster bonding and nurturing.
  5. Provide care coordination to mothers and children as they complete residential treatment and transition to Recovery Bridge Housing and Intensive Outpatient Services.
  6. Coordinate and conduct onsite childcare when mothers attend groups, counseling, and therapy sessions.
  7. Coordinate trips to the park, library, and other local child-friendly locations with mothers and children.
  8. Collaborate with Food Services to review dietary needs and restrictions of children, and ensure snacks are prepared for onsite visits.
  9. Coordinate and oversee mother/child visits on weekends and other approved times.
  10. Co-facilitate Nurturing Parenting, Celebrating Families, and other assigned groups.
  11. Establish partnerships with community-based organizations providing relevant services to mothers and children.
  12. Assist in organizing 4-6 Family Events a year (onsite or offsite).
  13. Assist in organizing a quarterly Family Resource Fair.
  14. Build relationships with Department of Children and Family Services Social Workers.
  15. Coordinate and oversee contact calls to children living offsite (virtual sessions and phone calls).
  16. Transport clients to Children Court Hearings, attend hearings, child visits, and other appointments as needed.
  17. Oversee the development and maintenance of an ongoing list of community resources for referrals and linkages.
  18. Complete documentation in SAGE within 24 hours of service.
  19. Provide weekly and monthly reports on program activities and outcomes.
  20. Enforce all COVID-19 safety measures.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Two years of experience working in the field of substance abuse with women, children, and their families.
  2. Must hold at least a BA in a human service field (psychology, social work, counseling) or possess equivalent experience.
  3. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
  4. Registered as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor.
  5. Culturally competent in working with minority, low-income, and vulnerable populations.
  6. Able to work on holidays and other nontraditional workdays and hours.
  7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with clients and team members.
  8. Proficient in maintaining accurate and timely documentation, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  9. Ability to adapt to changing work environments and respond effectively to crisis situations.
  10. Understanding of trauma-informed care principles and their application in substance abuse treatment.
  11. Proficiency in Motivational Interviewing, Nurturing Parenting Program, and Celebrating Families methodologies.
  12. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft programs- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.
  13. In-depth knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, substance abuse, and mental health, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected aspects within these domains.
  14. Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish are preferred.

JWCH Institute, Inc., offers competitive salaries for all positions. Full-time employees working at least 30 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Full Time Employees are also provided a monthly allowance which can be used towards insurance premiums.
