Position Description

Job Title: Kindergarten Teacher Aide

Job Status: Part-Time, Non- Exempt

Reporting Functions: Kindergarten Teacher, Principal


Job Function: The primary responsibility of a kindergarten teacher aide is to provide support to both the teacher and students in the classroom. This can include monitoring student behavior, assisting with classroom activities, and providing individualized attention to students who may be struggling. Additionally, the job may entail assisting with lesson planning and curriculum development, as well as participating in parent-teacher conferences and school events.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the classroom teacher with student activities. This includes but is not limited to, working with students during academic lessons, circle time, story time, outdoor lessons, all special classes, bathroom breaks, snacks, lunch, arrival and dismissal procedures, and disciplinary discussions.

  • Must be able to interact with students in physical exercise to help with proper, safe, and ergonomic techniques.

  • Interact with students in sing-along, hand motions, dancing, stretching, and other activities involving bending and reaching.

  • Ability to read to a large group of students.

  • Engage in learning and play activities per the Teacher's lesson plans.

  • Share input with Teacher for parent/teacher communication to enhance the student's learning experience.

  • Inform school administrators of any special needs or concerns about a student.

  • Educate and reinforce Holy Family rules of behavior and safety guidelines.

  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and sanitary classroom environment. Keep classroom shelves, counters, storage areas, and bathrooms orderly and free of clutter.

  • Provide supervision for children at all times.

  • Any other duties assigned by the Teacher and/or Principal.

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education-related field preferred.

  • Recent teaching experience is a plus.

  • Possess an understanding of child development, emotional well-being, and the skills necessary to relate to the student being taught.

  • Excellent communication, both with students and with teachers and staff.

  • Creative problem-solving, in order to develop effective solutions to classroom challenges.

  • Organization and time management, to effectively prioritize tasks and responsibilities.

  • Flexibility and adaptability, as each day in the classroom may present new challenges and unexpected situations.

  • A love of learning and a passion for helping students succeed.

PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old.) As well as attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit on the floor or low chair, walk, stand (up to 1 hour at a time), bend, crouch, kneel, crawl, and sit on the floor with young children. Must be able to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone. Use of hands to operate standard office equipment; with occasional reaching and lifting to 30 pounds. Level of physical fitness that allows for keeping pace with the activity level of young children throughout the school day.


Working Conditions: Normal preschool classroom setting, Part-time, 29 hours per week. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal school day to attend school-related events.
