Position Summary:

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Student Counseling Service (SCS). The SCS Assistant Director shares leadership responsibility with the Director with an emphasis on planning, organizing, and directing clinical operations including sole coordination of psychoeducational programming and group programming for SCS. Who We Are:

The Student Wellness Center at Rosalind Franklin University focuses on holistic, preventative interventions providing students a foundation for well-being via self-care and healthy life choices. As a part of the Division of Student Success and Wellness, the center leads proactive wellness initiatives and clinical services for University students. Staff members include both primary care and behavioral health clinicians. The center emphasizes intervention strategies that lead to options for overall better mental and physical health, stress reduction, and prevention of disease while meeting the mental and physical healthcare needs of a majority of RFU students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties (20% of time)

  • Collaborates with the Director in planning, organizing, and directing clinical operations of SCS including sole coordination of psychoeducational and group programming for SCS.
  • Participate in strategic planning and all reporting related to SCS.
  • Supervise unlicensed SCS Clinicians and train new employees.
  • Represent the interests of SCS on RFUMS committees or work groups as appropriate.

Clinical (70% of time)

  • Conducts psychoeducational programs for students, faculty, and staff at RFUMS.
  • Provides individual and group psychotherapy following federal, state, professional, and institutional regulations for RFUMS-enrolled students. Service provision includes face-to-face and tele-psychological psychotherapeutic services to students regarding problems relating to stress, developmental issues, career, academics, interpersonal concerns, and other mental health issues.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date record-keeping in an ethical manner and documents activity through electronic health records.
  • Provides crisis intervention services and crisis coverage for SCS.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities (10% of time)

  • •Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Meet with the Director to provide requested information.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must achieve background check clearance.
  • Must have proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a university-approved exemption.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Any combination equivalent to: Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or related field; or Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field and post-licensure experience of at least 2 years.
  • Licensure in the State of Illinois in professional discipline required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of psychological, educational, and developmental needs of educationally, socially, or psychologically impaired individuals.
  • Knowledge of psychotherapeutic techniques, differential diagnosis, and psychometric instruments.
  • Knowledge of university student mental health and development.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA, and other relevant guidelines and policies.
  • Knowledge of American Psychological Association professional standards and guidelines, professional code of ethics, and other related state and federal laws.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to present clear and comprehensive oral and written communications.
  • Ability to manage essential duties and responsibilities and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to identify and effectively utilize resources available to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to work confidentially and exercise appropriate discretion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-licensure experience in a college or university counseling center; including demonstration of progressive administrative/supervisory responsibilities in a college or university counseling center.
  • Completion of a supervised internship or work equivalent experience in university counseling center or related professional setting.
