Position Description: Northeastern Illinois University’s Department of Counselor Education is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join the Couple and Family Counseling program in the Department of Counselor Education. The ideal candidate will share the University’s commitment to educating a racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse student population. Furthermore, the candidate will be committed to reflective, collaborative, and transformative practice.

Currently, 49% of NEIU’s students are Latinx, 9.1% are African-American, 0.1% are Native Hawaiian, 7.2% are Asian-American, 0.2% Native American, 21 % are White, and 1.7% are multiracial.

Department Background: The Department of Counselor Education (CACREP accredited) offers four master’s level programs with emphases in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Couple and Family Counseling, School Counseling, and Rehabilitation Counseling. The department strives to remain committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout our scholarship, service, advocacy, leadership, mentorship, and teaching. Therefore, we seek candidates who advocate for social justice and antiracist policies, and utilize culturally relevant teaching, clinical practice, research, and service. We are dedicated to preparing counselors who are leaders and advocates in social justice and who will provide professional counseling services to adults, children, youth, individuals, couples, groups, and families.

Department Mission: The Mission of the Department of Counselor Education at Northeastern Illinois University is to provide a quality graduate education in Clinical Mental Health, Couple and Family, Rehabilitation, and School Counseling. Through a reflective, collaborative pedagogical approach, graduate students acquire transformative as well as culturally-sensitive knowledge and skills that promote personal, interpersonal, and professional development. The program trains graduate students to become skilled counselors in a diverse and changing world.

Responsibilities:

Teach graduate courses in the Couple and Family Counseling program, as well as across the graduate counseling curriculum
Provide clinical supervision to Couple and Family Counseling students at NEIU’s on-site counseling clinic
Advise Couple and Family Counseling students
Contribute to assessment, evaluation, and accreditation of Counselor Education programs
Engage in on-going scholarly activity and disseminate research findings via presentations and publications
Participate in Department, College, and University activities
Participate in professional activities
Requirements:

Earned doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited, or COAMFTE-accredited Couple/Marriage/Medical Family Therapy program (ABD will be considered with administrative experience)
Established Counselor Educator identity
Professional LCPC/LMFT licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Illinois
Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate level
Evidence of research and scholarship productivity
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Couple and Family and/or Clinical Mental Health counseling experience
Acquired LCPC/LMFT licensure in the state of Illinois
Evidence of teaching effectiveness and ability to teach across core counseling courses
Experience providing clinical supervision in an academic setting
Demonstrated experience working with diverse individuals in teaching, counseling, and supervision
Membership and involvement in professional organizations such as ACA, AAMFT, or ACES
Experience advising graduate students
Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and diversity
Knowledge of CACREP-accreditation process
