Job Title: LTL Operations Manager Division: Customer LTL Operations
Reports To: Assistant Director of Operations FLSA Status: Full-Time; Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The position will be accountable for achieving functional goals, establishing operational plans that are consistent with the business needs, and supplying best in class operations. Through collaboration with other leaders and managers, you will prioritize team workload and drive continuous improvement. You will be required to think critically, and problem solve by using your intrapersonal skills to build on and utilize your internal and external relationships. You will have acquired the confidence to speak in front of customers and advise the correct course of action for their business needs, as well as direct the operations team on best practices.
As an LTL Operation’s Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the functionality of the day-to-day operations and act as an escalation point for any larger issues that arise. This role requires you to lead with a solutions driven mindset and have a deep understanding of the industry, markets, trends, and past experiences that will help in advising Customer Operations. You will be required to think critically, and problem solve by using your intrapersonal skills to build on and utilize your internal and external relationships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads all bid and pricing exercises
- Participates in profitability reviews with other teams (customer teams, customers, carriers, sales)
- Provide exceptional freight bill auditing to internal and external parties.
- The escalation point on the LTL team
- Dispute invalid or incorrect charges when necessary.
- Research, analyze, and resolve invoice discrepancies. (billing) BOLs adjustments through TMS and email
- Deep understanding on how LTL pricing works, LTL rate bases, LTL rules/accessorial tariffs, rate structures, discounts, and minimum charges.
- Understand, organize, gather paperwork, and file/process freight claims with carriers.
- Ability to quote and understand current rates and rate structures.
- Partner with freight pay and accounting teams to ensure timely and accurate payments to carriers and invoicing to customers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with billing, A/P, and A/R departments of LTL motor carriers.
- Have a deep understanding of how LTL orders are built in TMS’s (transportation management systems), understand LTL processes and classifications.
- Manage and implement new practices, processes, metrics, or models as needed.
- Partner with other teams (customer, carrier, sales, accounting).
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals.
- Ability to work on and/or lead complex projects of large scope.
- Act as a mentor to less experience colleagues and provide in depth education and training when needed.
- Coordinating with carriers and dispatchers for pick ups and deliveries via phone and email.
- Tracking HOT orders through carrier websites and McLeod.
- Managing LTL imports through KanoPI tool.
- Resolving reconsignments and rescues/ OSD’s
- Point of contact for all LT billing needs or requests.
- Putting RFQ through edge and developing customer facing documents.
- Manages and maintains relationships with existing carrier network and is eager and able to build new relationships
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- 4-5 years of experience in managing LTL operations.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Apply advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to manager a wide array of projects.
- Detail oriented, committed to deadlines and have solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well on a team and to collaborate across internal teams.
- Willingness to learn.
- Ability to work without supervision or excessive help from Manager.
- Flexibility, Empathy, self-motivated.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
