Juvenile Reporting Center Senior Counselor

JOB TITLE:               JRC Senior Counselor 

POSITION GRADE: 78 [ Salary Range: 17.15hr-28.35hr commensurate with education and experience] 

DEPARTMENT:       Juvenile Reporting Center (JRC)

SUPERVISOR:          JRC Supervisor        

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Exercises full compliance with the Agency’s Code of Conduct, all Agency Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security for all client and staff related materials and/or records.
  • Directs clients in the daily routine of the JRC Program
  • Organizes, participates and supports staff and clients in the daily routine of the JRC Program
  • Provides individual and group supervision to clients in care and accounts for all in his/her care at all times. 
  • Completes order inventory, supply ordering, and pick up.
  • Supports all staff and Supervisor with training, and monthly schedule.
  • Completes JRC attendance and binder logs daily.
  • Participates in the cleaning, sanitizing and upkeep of the JRC facility.
  • Maintains and completes notes, safety and service plans for assigned case load 
  • Upholds all rules and structure within the JRC Program including communication with Probation and FACT
  • Applies approved crisis intervention / prevention techniques utilizing accepted practices per Agency policy and procedures.
  • Supports Supervisor with managing and debriefing all incidents on the floor and with staff 
  • Assists program supervisor and case manager in life skills and/or psycho educational groups for youth in the program.
  • Transports clients to and from program activities.
  • Assists recreation staff to develop weekly recreation activity calendar and supports the youth while participating in the activities.
  • Contact families and youth with concerns and supports for JRC program
  • Completes weekly progress notes into the Smart Care data base system.
  • Completes a weekly summary on each youth and submits referral source.  
  • Serves as the primary counselor to designated youth determined by the supervisor. 
  • Participates and Facilitates “Just Try” along with Probation

OTHER RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Adheres to established policies and procedures and makes suggestions for improvement as needed.
  • Exhibits punctuality to work, attendance, meetings, trainings and other assigned duties.
  • Demonstrates, promotes, and practices cultural competency towards clients, families and staff with respect and understanding achieved through training and Agency cultural activities.
  • Other responsibilities as designated by Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in the human services field.
  • One year of childcare experience is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Must be able to work evenings.
  • Possesses a valid NYS driver’s license in good standing.
  • Comfortable with community-based work with high-risk youth
