Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide design and project management services to the U.S. Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit (CEU) Miami. This role includes electrical engineering design, shore infrastructure maintenance, and managing construction, improvement, and alteration projects to assist with the overall acquisition objectives of the organization. CEU Miami supports Coast Guard shore facilities and fixed aids to navigation within the Seventh and Eighth Coast Guard Districts, covering areas from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to South Carolina, the Western River Basin, the Gulf Coast, and as far west as New Mexico.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Engineering Services: Provide administrative, professional, and technical support required for electrical engineering design project management to facilitate CEU Miami's overall objectives.
  • Design Services:
    • Rehab/modernize electrical distribution within built facilities.
    • Replace/expand exterior power distribution systems within Coast Guard installations.
    • Load sizing for emergency generator installations.
    • Design pier shore tie power systems for connection to ship-board power systems.
    • Scope/design fire alarm detection systems.
    • Scope/design access and intrusion detection systems.
    • Troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Project Documentation: Prepare design documents and scopes of work for architectural and engineering services, Design/Build services, and construction work. This includes drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and providing technical advice during negotiations.
  • Site Investigation: Perform site investigations to gather essential data for new or renovation work.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with site contacts and multi-disciplined design team members, conduct conceptual design meetings, and provide in-house electrical engineering advice and reviews.
  • Review and Comment: Review and comment on submittals, requests for information, work schedules, and prepare procurement packages.
  • Database Management: Update enterprise database systems for budgeting, project execution, and construction submittal reviews.

About You: The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

Education: Minimum of a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or registration as a professional electrical engineer in a state, District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. A licensed Electrical Engineer or other industry-standard professional licensure is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the electrical engineering field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, CAD, and database materials and programs.

Specific Skills:

  • Mastery of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices.
  • Ability to prepare plans and details, write specifications, and perform load calculations.
  • Knowledge of nationally accepted building and seismic codes.
  • Proficiency in Electrical Load Study Calculations, National Electrical Code Analysis, Short Circuit Calculation, Arc Flash Analysis, Overcurrent Protection Coordination, Photometric Analysis, LEED Design, Renewable Energy Systems, Fire/Intrusion Alarm Systems, Commissioning, Building and Equipment Grounding, Lighting Protection, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, and Electrical Equipment specifications.
