Focus Area: Early College Programs for High School Students

Role Overview:The Chair of High School Programming at PLC Detroit is tasked with leading the expansion and development of Early College Programs, deeply integrating design principles into educational pathways to provide a robust foundation in design thinking for high school students.

Strategic programming development of Dual Enrollment, Summer Programs, On-Campus initiatives, and virtual off-site programming. They collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, fostering partnerships with brand sponsors and ensuring the success and expansion of high school programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Integration of design principles, customizing curriculum in collaboration with academic divisions.
  • Align with educational partners to refine curriculum and ensure a strong design foundation.
  • Enhance the professional growth of staff, including career coaches and coordinators.

School Outreach: Advocate for design education through regular high school visits.

Resource Management: Coordinate with support services to ensure design-focused resources for students.

Compliance and Partnerships: Maintain program compliance and foster industry relationships for sponsored courses.

Communication: Lead outreach to educators and industry professionals, emphasizing program benefits.

Program Evaluation: Conduct regular analyses on student progress and program effectiveness.

Initiatives and Engagement:

  • Lead targeted engagement strategies such as competitions and school activations.
  • Drive initiatives like database creation, social media expansion, and community partnerships.
  • Oversee specific programs aiming to merge art and design education with high school and higher education.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Education, or a similar discipline, showcasing advanced knowledge and a deep commitment to the field.
  • At least 5-7 years of advanced experience in grant management or development. Candidates must have a proven ability to secure significant funding and manage complex projects across a variety of funding sources, such as government, educational, corporate-sponsored, and non-profit alliances.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities are essential. The role demands skill in building relationships, leading teams, and effectively communicating PLC Detroit’s goals and objectives to a wide audience.
  • A strong affinity for HBCU culture and values, combined with a thorough understanding of design thinking and the creative process, is critical for driving innovation and addressing challenges creatively.

This position is instrumental in shaping the future of design education at PLC Detroit, focusing on creating pathways for high school students to explore and excel in the field of design.

At PLC Detroit, we value diverse talents and offer competitive compensation packages. For this position, the annual base salary range falls within the Michigan state market for similar roles, estimated between $66,000 and $85,000 annually.
