POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Classroom Teacher, the Teacher Aide provides support to a Child Development classroom by assisting with the preparation and delivery of instructional activities, observing developmental indicators, redirecting behavior, and addressing the health and safety of the children. The CDP Teacher Assistant is also responsible for assuring compliance with the codes of all State and local governing contracting agencies; BGCGSD policies and Guidelines, and works collegially with other staff members of the CDP.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Successful completion of child protective services and criminal background check, drug screening, and physical.
  • Possession of CDP Credentials
  • Valid certification in pediatric CPR, first aid preventative health practices
  • Verification of Immunizations per SB 792 effective as of 9/1/16
  • Mandated Reporter Certificate

FUNCTIONS WITH CORRESPONDING TASKS

1. CLASSROOM AIDE

  1. Assist classroom staff in all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activates including lesson plans.
  2. Assist with classroom assessments and observations and portfolios.
  3. Assists with preparing the classroom for ECERS twice a year.
  4. Assist in developing materials and providing activities related to the cultural background of the children and families served.
  5. Supervise children indoors and outdoors at all times.
  6. Helps supervise at mealtime, eating with the children to encourage good nutrition and proper social skills.
  7. Help keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.
  8. Assists the teacher in any aspect of the program as the need arises.
  9. Serves as a substitute in the absence of other assistant teachers.
  10. Empties trash or garbage containers if needed before the custodian or janitor services.
  11. Sanitizes surfaces, picks up, and puts away materials in the classroom or kitchen/ classroom in order to maintain a safe and organized environment.
  12. Keep common spaces clean and orderly
  13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

2. REPORTING & ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Reports any symptoms of child abuse to supervisor and/or child abuse hotline.
  2. Reports all staffing and classroom concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  3. Reports family changes in schedules and excessive absence to administration in a timely manner.
  4. Prepare developmental progress reports as needed; maintain ongoing communications with parents/caregivers.
  5. Plan periodical parent conferences to discuss children’s developmental progress, needs, and interests.
  6. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and maintaining personal networks.
  7. Regular and predictable attendance is expected.
  8. Performs related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Six (6) units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD). (Required)
  2. Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills to converse diplomatically and effectively with staff, parents, and donors; innate ability to work steadily and calmly in high-pressure situations.
  3. Proven ability to work independently, establish and revise priorities to meet shifting deadlines, and prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple deadlines.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of current concepts and best practices used in early childhood education; methods of observing, evaluating, and recording child behavior and development. (Required)
  5. Demonstrated experience using computers and relevant software applications, including database management, spreadsheets, research, calendaring, and word processing
  6. Ability to work with a diverse population at all levels of the organization including, staff, club members, donors, families, and representatives from external organizations with proven ability to work as part of a cohesive team with same.
  7. Ability to effectively plan, organize, and implement educational activities; make decisions on behalf of children, and protect their well-being. (Required)
  8. Demonstrated experience using computers and relevant software applications, including database management, spreadsheets, research, calendaring, and word processing.
  9. Valid CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications must be acquired.
